Job Description
Calpine Corporation is helping meet the needs of an economy that demands more and cleaner sources of electricity. Founded in 1984, Calpine is a major North American power company, capable of delivering nearly 24,000 megawatts of clean, reliable and fuel-efficient electricity to customers and communities in 18 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces. Calpine owns, leases and operates integrated systems of fuel-efficient natural gas-fired and renewable geothermal power plants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement action plans to expand Calpine\'s acquisition and development prospects.
Develop and implement action plans to divest certain assets as determined by the Corporation.
dentify and develop business opportunities to acquire, expand or develop new power facilities and renewable resources.
Evaluate and analyze the viability of prospective projects.
Working with Commercial Operations, prepare proposals and customer presentations related to the development of project opportunities.
Analyze and evaluate transaction structuring options.
Effectively communicate the Calpine story to potential customers.
Coordinate project due diligence in cooperation with the operations group, legal counsel and other appropriate Calpine functions.
Lead negotiations of project acquisition agreements and work cooperatively with Origination, lead negotiations of power purchase agreements for development projects.
Develop and maintain relationships with industry contacts.
Lead teams in the preparation of proposals and completion of projects and acquisitions.
Coordinate the Business Development activities with the Project Finance, Legal and Operations groups to ensure thorough analysis and appropriate structuring of the projects.
Perform industry analysis, including competitive intelligence on market opportunities to select preferred targets for Calpine\'s Business Development efforts.
Prepare presentations to Senior Management in all functional areas as requested.
Other miscellaneous duties as required.
Qualifications:
Ten years experience in power industries.
Business development experience in the power industry
Bachelor\'s degree, MBA preferred.
Solid understanding of the technical aspects of a power plant.
Solid understanding of contract documentation, and the acquisition process.
Project economics expertise.
Ability to take initiative and work independently.
Willingness to travel frequently.
Excellent communications (verbal & written), negotiations, and human relations skills
