Job Description
Calpine Corporation is helping meet the needs of an economy that demands more and cleaner sources of electricity. Supports the conceptual design and operation of water treatment facilities at Calpines combined cycle power plants. Performs regular site visits to review current water treatment systems, equipment and programs and develops recommendations for compliance and performance improvements; develops corresponding action plans. Reviews chemical treatment costs, goals and projects and recommends programs and initiatives to realized cost savings including action plans. Develops recommendations and structures for standard monitoring systems, procedures, lab/chemical/reagent management, training, chemical purchasing/bidding and performance metrics. Provides substantial input to water technology/treatment standards and practices.
Position is responsible for managing multiple external relationships including representing Calpine in vendor negotiations and addressing regulatory concerns. Leads water treatment safety and compliance activities. Writes and reviews discharge permits and meets with permitting authorities to address concerns and respond to inquiries. Serves as primary interface with vendors including, but not limited to chemical and equipment suppliers. Negotiates pricing and service agreements. Writes bid templates and specifications and performs bid cost analysis and technical reviews. Meets with plant water treatment specialists and discusses ongoing activities, problems, equipment, compliance and treatment programs.

Highly skilled professional with wide-ranging, advanced technical experience to resolve complex issues.
Competent to work at very high level in multiple knowledge areas or functions as an advanced contributor.
Makes decisions on complex issues regarding project components and advanced tasks.
Leads the researches for innovations from external sources, and identifies opportunities to develop new processes, tools, services and techniques for water treatment and chemical analysis.
Works on complex issues and projects including creating mass balance from thermal data, creating water treatment system conceptual designs, calculating tank sizes, and creating process flow diagrams for plant water systems.
Writes specifications for water treatment equipment, steam/sample panels, chemical feed systems, and potable water systems.
Calculates water and wastewater flows and projected water quality.
Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Independently selects methods, techniques, analytical approach and evaluation criteria.
Determines methods and procedures for new assignments.
Serves as project/technical lead on medium to large projects; regularly coordinates work of professionals, technicians and others outside of own department.
Trains and mentors employees on technical skills
Collaborate and solve problems ? works with others to resolve significant issues, clarify or interpret complex information, provide initial screening/negotiations.
Supports the development process of new projects by integrating resources across Calpine departments/functions such as Business Development, Finance, Environmental and Legal.
BS in Engineering or equivalent; degrees in other technical areas may be considered if supported by a strong background in the water treatment sector.
