This next-generation transportation solution is designed around an operationally-proven “Bullet Train” system—the world’s safest, most comfortable, most reliable and most environmentally-friendly intercity high-speed rail system. Capable of speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour, the high-speed train will reduce the journey time between Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston to less than 90 minutes.

Position
TCR is preparing to enter the next phase of its project, which will include determining and finalizing its final alignment through the solicitation of public comment, advancing the level of design and engineering of the railroad, drafting the railroad’s safety and operations plans and preparing the project for construction. TCR’s Civil Engineer will play an integral role in coordinating with TCR’s consulting engineers, environmental consultants, regulatory officials and engineers representing Central Japan Railway as the various technical and design aspects of the project advance and mature.

The Civil Engineer will have 5 – 7 years of experience and will be required to engage on a very technical level and represent TCR’s interests with career railroad engineers, making railroad expertise a plus. Knowledge of high-speed rail is a plus, but is not a requirement. Knowledge of and previous experience with bridges, roads, utility relocation and drainage issues is desired. Experience in project management and managing consultants also a strong plus.

The Civil Engineer will be based in TCR’s Dallas office and will work under the direction of TCR’s Program Manager. Occasional travel to Houston and Washington, DC will be required.

Salary and Benefits:
Our offer will be tailored to the applicant we accept, but salary expectations should be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, with significant opportunities for growth over time. In addition, we provide comprehensive health insurance and the opportunity to participate in the company’s 401K.

Detailed Position Description—Civil Engineer, TCR – Dallas Office

1. Summary: You will work directly with TCR’s engineering, environmental and regulatory consultants, as well as state and federal agencies to support the development and execution of a high-speed rail project connecting Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston based on the deployment of proven HSR system.

2. Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.

a. Coordination with Design Team. You will lead TCR’s ongoing work with its design engineers, in close collaboration with DC- and Tokyo-based engineers, to advance the overall design of TCR’s proposed high-speed passenger railroad.

b. Coordination with Environmental Consultants. Design and operations decisions made to accommodate the project’s compliance with environmental regulations must be informed by a solid understanding of their implications on the project’s broader design criteria and overall objectives. You will work closely with the team leading the environmental review process to ensure that all design decisions and any proposed mitigation are consistent with TCR’s plans and objectives.

c. Coordination with Regulatory Agencies. Prior to initiating operation of its system, TCR must complete and secure the approval of a comprehensive safety and operations plan. You will support the development of this plan through close coordination with the consulting team charged with bringing this work together and will, from time to time, represent TCR in meetings with both state and federal regulatory agencies.

d. Coordination with Promotion Partners. You will work closely with engineers from our promotional partner railway on a variety of technical tasks related to the deployment of their technology in Texas. This will require extensive knowledge of and dialogue on issues related to civil structures, train signaling, electrification and drainage, among others.

e. Meeting Participation and Follow-up. You will be a part of a large, oftentimes disparate team. As such, you will be responsible for providing regular readouts and summaries of meetings and coordinating closely with TCR’s Program Manager and other executive leadership.
