This position is located in the Washington DC metro area.

The holder of this position will utilize subject-matter expertise to provide analysis of technical challenges and issues for sensors and technologies and integration tasks relevant to Department of Defense (DoD) missions and initiatives. The engineer shall develop solution concepts for operational problems involving systems that employ various sensor technologies and shall analyze new subsystem and system manifestations of existing sensor technologies to determine if they can solve existing and new operational requirements. This individual shall analyze the performance, compatibility, survivability, vulnerability, and reliability of various sensors under consideration for procurement or in development, production or operation in order to assess the potential suitability of the solution for an operational environment. The engineer shall interact with commercial vendors, US Government labs, and military units as required to facilitate these analyses.

Qualifications include a minimum of a BS in an engineering discipline or other relevant area with three years of experience.

Desired qualifications include an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in an engineering discipline with at least ten years of experience.

All applicants must have the ability to obtain and retain a DoD security clearance. Selection process will include passing a pre-employment background screening.

The holder of this position will apply analytical techniques, statistical assessments, and other measures to evaluate data and reach appropriate conclusions regarding different technology alternatives. This individual will ensure proper consideration of technical, programmatic, and management factors to support the analysis of new technologies. As part of the technology analysis process, this individual will review specific operational requirements for sensors and perform tradeoffs to determine the most appropriate technical approach based on customer-defined performance, integration, cost, and schedule metrics. The individual will document and present the results of these analyses, incorporating data from others as appropriate, and will develop, maintain, and coordinate documentation as required

Job Responsibilities:

- Oversee the provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance of virtual and physical environments
- Help define and implement policies for the maintenance of virtual and physical environments over their entire lifecycle
- Possess a strong architectural and technical understanding of the relationships between virtual and physical servers, network and SAN.
- Help develop and implement short and long term architectural plans for the physical and virtualization layers, including technology choices and refresh cycles
- Install/upgrade vSphere operating system on new and existing host servers.
- Monitor and tune virtual machine performance through Virtual Center and/or related management tools.
- Understand and work within established security guidelines and policies within virtual environments and for environment provisioning process.
- Understand security policy for virtual environments and report any observed irregularities to management.
- Monitor capacity and performance of the virtual infrastructure and report possible service impacts to management
- Work closely with virtual and storage infrastructure, including Windows and Linux operating systems, server virtualization software, virtual infrastructure management, storage management.

Job Qualifications:

- College Degree.
- Seven to ten (7-10) or more years of overall IT experience
- At least 4 years of experience with VMWare virtualization technologies.
- VMWare Server Virtualization products - VMWare vSphere, ESX, Lab Manager.
- Storage Area Networks - Experience with NAS and Block Level storage protocols.
- Server Hardware - Dell and HP Rack Servers.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008
- LinuxUnix Administration
- Ability to troubleshoot host and network performance issues.
- Able to run multiple tasks for different functional areas.
- Ability to function independently with minimal supervision as well as within a collaborative team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) certification.
- Direct Linux and Windows system administration experience.

The Corporate Infrastructure's team mission is to deliver robust, highly available, and easy to use services to our internal customers across the global enterprise. We are looking for an engineer who is an expert in Collaboration technologies, specifically Microsoft Exchange and LYNC. As a Senior Systems Engineer you will help design and build the future of Collaboration at Amazon while maintaining the current global infrastructure. To be successful in this position you must have a strong desire to automate, lead, and be comfortable taking imitative.

You will be responsible for implementation, monitoring and maintaining the critical systems that all Amazonians depend on. This also includes capacity planning, project coordination, and providing on-call technical support.This position requires the applicant selected to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility and access. A US Government administered polygraph examination will be required. TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 5+ years relevant work experience.
- 5+ years supporting Microsoft Exchange
- Ability to program to solve problems and automate repetitive tasks in a common scripting or programming language such as Perl, PowerShell, and/or VBScript.
- Clear, professional communication skills able to contribute to team discussions, knowing when to contribute, when to listen, and when to ask questions.
- Strong leadership skills and a successful track record of driving projects to completion- Experience administrating Linux-based email systems and email firewall appliances
- Experience with Microsoft OCS or LYNC

Preferred Qualifications

- Flexibility, thinking on your feet, and strong problem solving skills
- Demonstrable track record dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering measurable results in an agile environment
