Position Description

Develops and maintains basic cable/wire harness detail and assembly designs. Assists with engineering design disposition on discrepancies (e.g., rejection tags, production action requests, shop revision requests). Develops and maintains basic electrical product detail, assembly and installation designs (e.g., equipment racks, power panels, cable routing and geometry, antennas).Follows documented processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electrical commodities. Collects data to support the development of statements of work. Assists in data gathering of supplier capabilities. Reviews functional and physical input used in the development of integrated design and system architecture. Works under close supervision.

Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).

Basic knowledge of Parts, Materials and Processes related to Electrical, Electronic, Electro-mechanical, Electro-optical commodities. Knowledge of analytical processes, construction, integration and performance evaluation. Knowledge of Parts, Materials and Processes management and control, producibility, application limitations, packaging and handling, radiation effects, reliability, failure modes, failure analysis and techniques, instrumentation, assembly and repair methods, obsolescence, drawings and fabrication, screening and qualification, derating.

[ + ] Electromagnetic Interference/E
Basic understanding of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) considerations with respect to electrical/electronic design (e.g., wire harness design, grounding and shielding design techniques, lightning protection).

Basic ability to apply basic knowledge of electrical/mechanical engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, and validate solutions for wire harness and equipment installation designs.

Basic Qualifications For Consideration

Do you have experience with CATIA V5 for wire harness or equipment installation design?

Typical Education/Experience

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for ensuring the technical aspects of all projects are clear, meet the customers� design intent and are as easy to manufacture as possible. Must possess the ability to:
�Act as a liaison between sales, IT, customer service, engineering, manufacturing, and quality control. This includes both US-domestic and international operations/services.
�Be the primary contact/communications point in the US in working with China Operations.
�Lead the Engineering Team to develop designs and drawings as needed on a timely basis.
�Incorporate engineered, efficient, best practice design/production methods in the design/detail drawing process
�Product development � find, source, develop information and details for efficient production resulting in excellent quality
�Production/manufacturing review � interact with production to assure design/production flow
�Review and evaluate program requirements in order to develop cost estimates that reflect the most cost effective methods of production to achieve client-desired delivery, aesthetic, and functional requirements. Responsibilities include reviewing project specifications with appropriate personnel as required.
�Document and communicate all critical production information to outside vendors through follow-up correspondence on a timely basis.
�Perform on-site visits at various outside sources to check the quality and status of production.
�Travel to installation sites as requested to observe/manage progress of project.
�Regularly communicate with sales, management, and all relevant parties on projects� job status and requirements.
�Communicate with customers as needed.
�Candidate must be personable, focused, influential, well organized, and results oriented.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
�Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Industrial Design is a minimum.
�Minimum 6 to 8 years of varied operations experience in a related environment, including experience and knowledge of wood, metal and acrylic manufacturing. Fieldwork installation experience would be a plus.
�Experience with technical software tools, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.
�Experience working with internal team members and external manufacturers located in China.
�Strong eye and attention to detail.
�Proven experience in cost analysis and value engineering.
�Strong business acumen with an understanding of business models and methods.
�Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment
�Excellent project, organizational management and decision-making skills.
�Flexibility to operate within a fast-paced, rapidly changing, business environment.
�Flexible work hours to effectively work in an international team environment.
�Ability to build successful partnerships internal and external to the business.
�Solid leadership capabilities, both formal and informal.
�Very strong verbal and written communications skills � to be used in clearly explaining complex requirements to others in an effective and efficient manner.
