Job Title: Quality Engineer

We have four Quality Engineer position open within our Engineering Department, and will accept applicants at either the Associate or Engineer level.

The Associate Engineer position is the first level of Engineer in the Engineering Department. This level is for the newly degreed engineer who is hired with very little work experience. The focus of this position is to apply knowledge, skills, and abilities while learning and receiving information about the company, procedures, processes, and environment at Dart and applying it appropriately.

The Engineer position is the second level of Engineer in the Engineering Department. This level is for the employee with some relevant work experience who has mastered basic engineering skills. The focus of this position is for the employee to lead moderate size projects or phases of programs.

The Senior Engineer position is the third level of Engineer in the Engineering Department. This level is for the employee who possesses recognized technical expertise in at least one area of the operational environment. The focus of the position is to lead multiple comples projects of long duration while continuously improving areas of personal knowledge and providing training to others.

Our Engineers must:

� Collaborate as a productive member of project teams and lead projects of varying size and scope (depending upon the level)
� Demonstrate Engineering Professionalism in all activities and interactions, increase personal awareness of customer needs and implement solutions, and provide efficient service to internal and external customers
� Schedule activities to complete assigned tasks and projects, and communicate and document requisite information, while following established Dart policies and procedures
� Apply technical knowledge to identify process and equipment problems, recommend and implement solutions, collect and document data, and verify results

Specific Duties:

Associate Engineer:

� Participate in gage and test equipment design and evaluation.
� Participate in Measurement systems Analysis, including Gage R&R studies.
� Previous experience with Geometric dimensioning and tolerance
� Develop procedures and provide training on the proper usage of gages and measurement systems.
� Assist in the execution of designed experiments.
� Evaluate and assist in the implementation of statistical process control techniques.
� Assist in the development of inspection criteria.
� Prefer someone with Statistical Process Control experience. Application of statistical methods in non-normal distributions and multi-cavity molds would be a plus.

Engineer:

� Design and evaluate gages and test equipment.
� Experience in design of experiments (DOE), Repeatability and Reproductibility (R&R), studies and Total Quality Management (TQM)
� Previous experience with Geometric dimensions and tolerance
� Perform Measurement Systems Analysis, including Gage R&R studies.
� Develop procedures and provide training on the proper usage of gages and measurement systems.
� Develop and execute design experiments.
� Develop inspection criteria.

Senior Engineer:

� Develop training programs in areas such as mathematics, statistics, technical writing, auditing, QC methods and inspecition procedures.
� Conduct Field Service Repost (FSR) investigations.
� Perform and/or assist with internal product and process audits.
� Assist in the evaluation and resolution of multidisciplinary design problems.
� Act as a liaison for production facilities and other Engineering groups to resolve chronic quality issues.
� Mentor colleagues and co-workers in their professional development.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Position experience levels are:

� Associate Level Degreed Candidates: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering related field
� Engineer Level Degreed Candidates: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering related field and at least 3 years of Engineer related experience
� Senior Level Degreed Candidates: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering related field and at least 8 years of Engineer related experience.

� Requires good verbal and written communication skills, prefer strong verbal and written communication
� Requires 2 years of experience in word processing, spreadsheet software, internet and email, prefer 5 years
� Requires the understanding and application of statistics and calculus
� Requires a valid driver's license and favorable motor vehicle report
� Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a passport
� Requires the ability to travel up to 75% percentage domestically and/or internationally
� Prefer experience with MS Word, Excel and Lotus Notes
� Prefer experience in Design of Experiments (DOE), Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) studies and Total Quality Management (TQM)
� Prefer experience with responsibility for product and process quality issues.

General Summary

The Validation Engineer (VE) is primarily responsible for validating processes and equipment. The Validation Engineer may be required to participate in Internal Quality Audit Program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

� Prepare, document and execute validation protocols, engineering studies and designs of experiments (DOEs) and prepare subsequent reports
� Test and inspect samples
� Analyze data and prepare reports
� Perform and document root-cause analysis for product and process failures; participate and lead in the corrective and preventive actions
� Audit and confer with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality, and vendor quality standards
� Review technical problems and procedures and recommend solutions to problem or changes in procedures
� Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product
� Train manufacturing personnel in proper operation of equipment and processes to be validated
� Develop, document and update standard operating procedures, specifications and assembly instructions
� Support manufacturing efforts by troubleshooting equipment and process failures
� Lead and implement process improvement efforts throughout the manufacturing plant
� Participate as a member of the internal audit team by conducting internal audits

Required Qualifications

� Ability to utilize MiniTab
� Proficiency in intermediate-level statistical analysis
� Proficiency in organizing, tracking and reporting status of projects for which he/she is responsible.
� Strong analytical/troubleshooting skills, including cause and effect analysis
� Solid understanding of basic electrical and mechanical design necessary in order to trouble shoot equipment that is being validated
� Excellent written communication skills
� Strong verbal communications skills
� Exceptional technical aptitude
� Experience using Microsoft Office software in a network computer environment
� Proven ability to multi-task between various responsibilities
� B.S. in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Quality)

Preferred Qualifications

� Certified Statistical Quality Engineer
� Ability to perform basic electrical troubleshooting of equipment using multimeter and equipment schematics
� 2-5 years� experience as a Validation/Quality Engineer validating processes and equipment

Environment & Working Conditions

� Ability to lift at least 30 lbs
� Standing for long periods of time
� Bending
� Sitting for long periods of time
� Ability to use rulers, calipers/micrometers, height gage, tensile and compression testing equipment, pressure decay tester, burst tester, multi-meter

Manage suppliers� performance and conduct audits.

Preparation of QA reports.

Log nonconforming material into the MRB hold area log

Will be responsible for processing nonconformance issues through to completion in a timely
manner

Assist the Engineering department with testing and confirmation of reliability of corrective actions.

Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings

Previous training is SPC and design of experiments.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel

Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and background check

Education & Experience
Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred

5 � 10 years experience in a Manufacturing Engineering or QA role required

Expected that experience will allow successful candidate to participate in analyzing root cause
and developing corrective actions.

Previous MRB chair experience is desired

Education

Experience
� Minimum 4 years experience.
� Two years of GMP manufacturing experience required.

Skills
� Requires demonstrated skills in technical innovation, technical leadership, mechanical and or chemical engineering, fluids engineering, and cellular biology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
General Labor Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

Production and Process Controls

- Understand and apply the manufacturing quality toolset including PFMEA, IQ, OQ, PQ, GR&R/measurement system analysis, control plans, process verification/validation plans, validation protocol development, Cpk, Cp, SPC, hard gauging applications, computer-based inspection methods, and operator work
- Instructions, DOE, process data analysis, and DMAIC.
- Conduct investigations to identify root cause of problems and implement effective corrective actions.
- Participate in internal audits and supplier evaluations.
- Defines and establishes needed quality initiatives.
- Develop quality system procedures through cross-functional teams.
- Create specifications and test methods, solid experience in test method validation and designing test fixtures.
- Develop, troubleshoot and refine manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Assist manufacturing sites with the interpretation of quality requirements including verification/validation planning and execution, first production run requirements, and problem resolution.
- Develop control plans that identify inspection characteristics, gauging techniques, and sampling requirements.
- Work with manufacturing sites to resolve conflicts and recommend revisions as required.
- Train and coach QEs and Associate QEs.
- Provide training and business process expertise within and outside the quality department.
- Provide support to other Global Quality projects as needed.
- Support the applicable site Quality System.

Design Controls/Quality System

- Participate in development projects by providing quality engineering services to assigned projects.
- Ensure defendable engineering and scientific analyses are employed and design history files comply with company policies and governmental regulations.

Engineering Drawings/Specifications (GD&T)

- Review drawings to evaluate quality requirements including correct application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), proper use of engineering, process and material specifications, and identification of key characteristics for inspection plans and methods.
- Recommend revisions to assure design requirements are specified in the appropriate detail and clarity to provide a successful design transfer.
- Review and approve engineering change orders.
- Review product verification and validation plans and approve reports.

Job Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering (or other applicable technical degree) or related discipline from and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering (or other applicable technical degree) or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years related experience.
- Experience in the application of production and process controls including process validation, process control plans and statistical process control.
