Basic Function

The incumbent’s primary responsibility is the maintenance and application of control technologies for the purpose of sustaining and improving the plant’s processes. This includes the programming and maintenance of computers, peripherals, and programmable controllers.

Principal Accountabilities

Safety and Quality – Promote a safe and healthy working environment to minimize accidents, understand process safe operating parameters, and provide safe control of process operations. Participate in the Total Quality process to contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Government Regulations – Ensure compliance with plant and government regulations concerning the environment, employee health and safety, and equal employment opportunity.

Maintenance – Perform maintenance of computers and programmable controllers with spare equipment to assure minimum down time of a process. This includes insuring spare parts are available to minimize out of service time for critical equipment.

Assembly and Testing – Assemble and test new computer and programmable controllers prior to such equipment being installed in a control room.

Programming – Program distributed control systems and programmable controller functions. Assist Maintenance personnel in the programming of programmable controllers assigned to the Maintenance department.

Documentation – Prepare and update the necessary documentation for the maintenance of installed systems and for programmable controllers.

Technical Knowledge – Develop state of the art technical knowledge of hardware and software involved in programmable controllers, computers, and distributed control systems.

Personal Development – Foster personal and professional growth and development through reading and participation in appropriate on the job and off the job activities.
