The engineering role supports a business function that implements the framework for the disciplined execution of effective engineering at LANL through application of national consensus codes and standards, recognized quality standards, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, Laboratory requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations. As a Cogitative Systems Engineer, you will integrate with other engineering disciplines, document control, safety basis, operations, maintenance, project management, or any other organization that needs engineering input to accomplish LANL deliverables, including but not limited to the maintenance and operations of nuclear and nonnuclear facilities. Accordingly, you must be able to work independently and as part of a team, apply broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of engineering deliverables, and utilizes engineering technology to accomplish work and continuously improve work processes to meet customer needs.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in design engineering or system engineering for nuclear or industrial facility operations
Demonstrated experience with industry codes and standards
Demonstrated experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance
Demonstrated experience with modification definition and control
Demonstrated ability to communicate well (verbal and written)
Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to electrical design implementation.
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification - or certification that the candidate has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of three (3) years of practical work experience.

Engineering Services (ES) Division applies capabilities to enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. Within ES, Facility Engineering is a multi-disciplinary organization consisting of collaborative System and Modification Engineering Teams. Collectively, these teams enable the UI, LANSCE and STO Facility Operations Directorate (FOD) missions across the Lab and in mixed-use office, laboratory, research, and production spaces. FE mission work directly impacts all Laboratory Directorates.
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test:
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the one year of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
