TITLE OF POSITION: Applications Engineer I-Soft Magnetics R & D
LOCATION: Reading, PA
Using various 3D modeling-based electromagnetic FEA/CAD technologies, assist in developing new applications and identify existing ones which could leverage existing products in the Carpenter catalogue
Provide assistance in the identification of systems for which materials need to be developed
Monitor existing engineering standards and processes as well future technologies related to the fabrication of electromagnetic systems, and proactively drive development of new material needs as identified backed by modeling driven verification
Interact with Carpenter engineering and/or manufacturing staff to lead and assist with the implementation of process capabilities and improvements
Scope out project needs, design experiments using standard experimental design techniques and use advanced techniques for component modeling, testing and data analysis
Support Alloy Design and Product Development with Product metallurgists with projects designed to find optimal material design targets for development
Prepare technical reports based on work performed
Interact with national laboratories, universities and industrial consortiums to jointly develop and evaluate new processes and materials
Play a lead role in researching and developing new materials and solutions
Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or other related technical degree
Three years' practical working experience or graduate studies emphasizing finite analysis of soft magnetic cores used for motor stators (stacked laminations) and other electronic machines
Experience with computer-based draft and design tools, process and magnetic computational modeling using commercial packages (e.g. Ansys, JMAG, Solidworks, Comsol) and magnetic testing
Project management experience with demonstrated ability to drive and meet project outcomes
Familiarity with a variety of soft magnetic materials such FeCo alloys (e.g. Hiperco 50), NiFe alloys (e.g. HyMu 80), amorphous alloys and nanocrystalline alloys desired
Strong communication skills to include verbal, written and listening
Demonstrated drive and passion towards meeting project outcomes
Ability to make significant individual contributions to the attainment of team objectives
