POSITION SUMMARY/ PURPOSE:
Engineer food processing machinery from concept thru production utilizing industry design standards and guidance from the project engineering manager.
Develop new concepts by applying design standards, details and geometry to the idea. Creates conceptual models, assemblies and drawings from engineering sketches or layouts with the ability to enhance concepts with their own ideas. Analyze existing product lines for function to investigate improvements for function across the product line.
Interpret designs, make engineering calculations, examine specifications and expedite and process engineering change requests.
Work with Manufacturing / Sales/ Service by answering questions and resolving problems that arise.
Work with manufacturing and service to improve manufacturability and serviceability of the equipment.
Compute mathematical calculations using standardized tables and formulas. Compute engineering calculations.
Complete Item Masters, DCN’s and other engineering forms.
Completes assignments on or ahead of schedule and accomplishes assigned work in an organized, timely manner; performs a full range of responsibilities; and, produces necessary results in spite of unforeseen changes. Alerts appropriate supervision and team members if deadlines need to be modified to accomplish work with higher priority.
Maintains high quality standards despite pressing deadlines; does work right the first time; corrects own errors; and, regularly produces accurate, thorough, professional work. Understands and complies with all company policies and procedures and takes personal responsibility for safety.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good drawing and detailing capabilities with an understanding of assembly stackup and tolerances.
Good machine design skills.
Clear understanding of manufacturing and production processes.
2-D or 3-D CAD experience required, Pro-E CAD desirable.
Hands on machinery or fabrication skills a must.
Ability to apply engineering principles to the design for acceptable performance.
Skilled in PC word processing and spreadsheet programs, preferably Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to efficiently communicate with others in the organization, and be able to work comfortably in a team environment.
Capable of navigating various ERP and Intranet websites to locate information required for the project at hand.
Willing to learn a basic understanding of most product lines and is able to quickly adapt to moving from one product to another.
General understanding of the tools available in the ERP system and engineering procedures.
General understanding of the operation of the tools in the cad system and is proficient at them. Has good capabilities of advanced CAD tools.
Ability to adapt to changes and be able to use the conventional & unconventional tools to find answers to complete various projects
PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE:
2 years in mechanical related field or industry (e.g. pumps, grinders, generators, etc. )
2 years of experience using Pro-Engineer CAD and Intralink software with a background in sheet metal application a plus.
EDUCATIONAL AND/OR TRAINING REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and/or Proven Experience in the field with good design skills.
