Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Security Engineers on this team are responsible for finding new vulnerabilities and analyzing externally reported vulnerabilities, developing exploits, utilizing exploit kits, providing vulnerability mitigations, virtual patches and workarounds, act as the technical reviewers for external security communications such as VMware Security Advisories, security response engineering and tools development.
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Perform an offensive analysis of VMware products and cloud services, with an assumed breach mindset, that include software defined compute/network/storage, cloud security, end-user and cloud-native solutions.
Use your code reading and writing skills to discover security defects
Enable Models for SOC to detect similar family of techniques
Make entire kill-chain understandable for an engineering audience (Principal Engineers, SREs and executives) as well as Security and Incident Response peers
Methodically create/execute test plans and automate your efforts
Guide and mentor members of VMware Product Security, Threat Modeling and SOC on offensive security thinking
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
This team is part of the SCoPE (Security, Compliance and Privacy Engineering) organization which is headed by Ashok Banerjee, who is the Vice President based out of U.S. The offensive security team, along with VMware Security Response and Security Development Lifecycle teams are led by Manish Gaur, who is an experienced security leader with a product development background. This team is a globally distributed team with a culture of continuous learning and pushing boundaries while celebrating each other’s successes.
Where is this role located?
Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.
