Job Summary
The Engineering Manager coordinates and manages the preventative maintenance, repairs, and outfitting of vessels, equipment, and machinery in collaboration with the various members of the operations and engineering teams. The Engineering Manager also assumes responsibility for managing and overseeing specific projects.
Role and Responsibilities
Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintains constant and effective communication with all members of the Engineering Department and provides proactive updates to the management staff as needed
  • Ensures all machinery and equipment throughout the vessel fleet is properly maintained to operate safely and reliably, to mitigate any unscheduled repairs, while managing costs to the company and its customers
  • Continuously monitors the status of all vessel repairs; ongoing, pending, or completed, by coordinating with the Fleet Engineers and Project Managers, and by physical inspection for certain key items as required
  • Develops, implements, and manages the equipment and repair budgets for the fleet of vessels, and communicates any deviations in a timely manner
  • Oversees the preparation of long-range planning projects, including drydock periods and capital improvements for the vessel fleet, including managing the contract negotiations and agreements with contractors and vendors
  • Provides direct oversight for employees, vendors, and subcontractors engaged in equipment installation, equipment repair, and preventive maintenance
  • Allows the flexibility to be available on short notice to attend an unscheduled event, and participates in the rotating duty assignments for the Engineering Department during afterhours and weekends
  • Performs all job functions in a safe manner and represents the organization in a professional manner and presents on department or projects status both internally and externally as needed
  • Assumes responsibility for the training and development of shoreside and fleet engineering personnel
  • Provides management and oversight of the organization’s preventive maintenance programs and systems
  • Manages the Engineering Department, consisting of Fleet Engineers and Project Managers who oversee several employees
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; performance management, addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Provides oversight for project subcontractors as needed
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
