The primary result expected from the Design Engineer will be developing and testing specifications and methods. Design work will entail marine canvas, hardware, furniture and upholstery. The Design Engineer will participate in the development and improvement of new and existing designs. The Design Engineer must communicate with co-workers and customers to solve process and product problems and accurately record information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as the Design Engineer may deem necessary from time to time.
Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
Design test control apparatus and equipment and develop procedures for testing products.
Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification.
Establish and coordinate the maintenance and safety procedures, service schedule, and supply of materials required to maintain machines and equipment in the prescribed condition.
Investigate design failures and problems to diagnose causes and to make recommendations to resolve.
Oversee initial manufactring run to ensure that machines and equipment are capable of producing design product that function in according to specifications.
Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Research, analyze, and design customer’s proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area of Engineering/Design/Product Development is required
Previous marine experience is preferred
Previous product development experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
Previous experience in CAD systems is required
Previous experience with Wacom systems and other associated software is a plus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.
The employee must occasionally lift 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The position is a mix of office-based work combined with field work with frequent visits to the Manufacturing/Production floor.
Travel up to 50% between other manufacturing plants or customer locations will be required
