Provide engineering technical support to the Government Naval Sales and Application Engineering department specializing in MTU Automation Controls for the Naval market sector.
Collaborate with program managers on individual US Navy and US Coast Guard program engineering requirements
Review Customer Specifications, US Navy and US Coast Guard Regulations.
Define automation controls requirements
Interface with government naval sales staff to provide engineering solutions for MTU vessel control systems.
Develop scopes of supply and assist in customer quotations through the sales department.
Interface with key users to resolve automation control problems.
Assist the MTU America Naval Aftersales Department with engineering, installation and commissioning of MTU Automation controls.
Provides global project team support to Germany when needed
Develop detailed functional descriptions for automation projects.
Promote a compliance culture in area of responsibility and live the letter and the spirit of the Rolls Royce Code of Conduct.
Perform special projects as required
Sr. Application Engineer - Automation Controls
Company Headquarters (Novi, MI)
BS Electrical, Electronics or Automation Engineering and 5 years’ experience with automation control systems in marine applications, diesel and or gas turbine propulsion systems; Or 9 years’ experience with automation control systems in marine applications, diesel and or gas turbine propulsion systems.
Excellent knowledge of automation communication protocols such as Ethernet, J1939 and NEMA Standards.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
Knowledge of principles and operations of internal combustion engines
Strong PLC programming experience
Strong knowledge of Hybrid and Electrification systems
Strong analytical ability to gather facts, draw conclusions, and develop a solution when problems are complex
Strong willingness to work with key users, sales, after sales, customers and to work effectively with others
Self-starter with the ability to work extended periods without supervision
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
Frequent travel to shipyards and industrial sites and occasional international travel
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status
Proficient with PC, MS Office and basic ability with MS Project

Daily work is performed in an office environment 50% of the time and in an Engineering Field Work Environment 50% of the time. This position has a traditional work schedule (Monday through Friday) for work performed in an office environment. When conducting Engineering Field Work there may be longer hours. The Field Work Environment includes shipyards, at sea, manufacturing facilities, trade shows, and technical meetings.
The employee will also visit our customer’s and/or distribution partners’ field service and workshop areas and will be exposed to the conditions of these areas. The employee may encounter environmental conditions where there are fumes, dust, water, unpleasant odors and gases. The employee may also be within the proximity of moving mechanical parts and will frequently hear noise. The employee will occasionally endure hot, cold, and humid temperature conditions.
While performing duties of this position, the employee is regularly requested to sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk and regularly requested to activate a keyboard or mouse within the work environment.
