The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Test Engineer.

This position will support the research efforts of the NDTL. Our mission is to develop advanced technologies for the next generation of gas-turbine engines.
The Test Engineer will be responsible for the preparation and operation of high-speed turbomachinery test articles, facilities, and related instrumentation. The successful candidate must be familiar with the applied research and testing environment. The test engineer will construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, and operate a wide range of instrumentation, software, and mechanical systems to safely acquire high fidelity test data. The test engineer will be in direct contact with a variety of external vendors, internal and external engineers, program managers, and scientists.
The successful candidate will need the ability to multi-task and interact successfully with individuals with varying levels of experience while working closely with faculty, staff, and students. Must be able to organize and prioritize work independently and meet critical deadlines in a fast paced environment where creativity and flexibility is highly regarded. The ability to teach oneself new skills as required is also essential.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Operation of turbomachinery facilities, data acquisition, basic data quality verification
Design, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, software, and hardware in a test environment
Team with facility technicians to prepare test articles and facility for operation
Test planning and cost estimation
Test process development and documentation
Test status reporting
Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or related engineering field required. 1-2 years experience required.
Familiarity with testing and research environment, basic electrical skills for both power and instrumentation applications, basic computer programming, basic data acquisition skills, strong computer skills
Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, climb and lift up to 50 pounds to perform some of the work.
This position requires candidates to be a US Citizen or hold a Green Card.
MATLAB and LabView skills preferred.
