The Desktop Engineer’s role is to support in-house and vendor computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The Desktop Engineer will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user training and assistance where required.
Creates and maintains workstation images (tablet, laptop, desktop).
Assists with workstation deployments using industry standard tools and processes, (MDT, USMT, SCCM, etc.).
Leverages scripting experience to solve problems using a variety of languages such as VB Script, Powershell, etc.
Maintains backward compatibility of new images with existing hardware deployed throughout the enterprise.
Assists in transition planning for migration of users from existing workstation images to latest image
Reviews and tests new hardware models for supported workstation vendors.
Provides support for enterprise productivity software applications (Google Apps for Business, Microsoft Office, web browsers, etc.).
Provides input to, understands, and follows best practices for Desktop management including but not limited to workstation patching, software procurement, software deployment, inventory management, license auditing, image creation & deployment, and workstation naming standards.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies or solutions.
Assists with annual cost and quality review on existing workstation vendors as well as other vendors in the marketplace
Understands Active Directory at the intermediate level.
Assists in managing desktop security and configuration management solutions using industry tools, (Group Policy Objects (GPO), Local Policy Objects (LPO), and scripts).
Understands at the intermediate level, workstation security, (Intrusion Detection, Incident Management & Response, Malware Analysis, Computer Forensics, PKI, web certificates, etc.).
Understands networking concepts and technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, and DHCP.
Understands PKI for application configuration, security tokens. and web certificates at the intermediate level.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering and/or 1-5 years equivalent work experience.
1-5 years of OS deployment experience.
Basic understanding of scripting languages (i.e PowerShell, Java)
Experience in a large corporate multi-site organization containing 7K+ machines.
Microsoft Certified System Engineer certification preferred not required.
