Description
Plan, direct, and coordinate the design and development of packaging for hardware products and accessories within the LaserJet Packaging Engineering team.
Work with ODM’s and suppliers along with cross functional groups to ensure all packaging is developed, tested, and available to meet manufacturing requirements.
Provide early assessment of packaging and supply chain costs as input to the product design process.
Conduct packaging testing in-house and with partners, then make appropriate design changes to meet requirements.
Ensure the packaging designs meet quality, cost, and time to market targets
Work with various regions to develop roadmap and strategy to meet product launches.
Troubleshoot existing packaging designs and continuously improve them.
Work with R&D during the product development process and concurrently design the needed packaging solution.
Continuously review new technologies, materials, and processes that can help deliver new solutions.
Responsibilities
Engage product core teams to collect requirements around packaging layout, cost, materials, and artwork.
Manage packaging communication, test requirements, schedule, test report review, corrective actions, and part release with internal and external partners.
Address factory or field escalations around packaging quality.
Periodically visit suppliers/partners for knowledge sharing and auditing.
General process development and communication: engineering solutions to eliminate process gaps, preventative actions, etc.
Support Issue Resolution/Hold teams to resolve critical issues quickly.
Strong experience implementing sustainable packaging practices that maximize space and reduce waste, including recyclable, compostable and recycled materials.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
Advanced project management experience/skills with the ability to drive/lead complex projects within budget and time targets.
Strong fundamental in packaging commodity (corrugated carton and EPS foam) in the manufacturing or design environment.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across businesses.
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability make presentations at all levels of management.
Experience in packaging design, manufacturing or sourcing functions preferred. Experience in managing sub-contractors and suppliers.
Good team player.
Knowledge and Skills
Packaging development background
Ability to use TOPS software or equivalent
Solid modeling and CAD experience: CoCreate, SolidWorks, etc.
Strong packaging and mechanical DfX skills
Ability to run teams or be active contributor to teams
Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to effectively communicate issue/program/process status and results to management.
Proficient in MS applications: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Ability to use mechanical measurement tools
Ability to deploy mechanical test procedures to confirm root cause/corrective actions during issue resolution.
Strong skills using 3D CAD software as a mechanical design tool
Strong packaging design and testing knowledge required
Experience with design for manufacturability
Strong manufacturing background in box and cushion manufacturing
Must be proficient with analyzing data and using data to drive decisions;
Advanced problem solving skills and strong drive for root cause identification and issue resolution
Ability to function as a member of a team or lead team based initiatives across various functions;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
