Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking an entry to mid-level Geologist to provide support and task management on various environmental and engineering geologic projects. Experience in task managing and performing Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), environmental site investigations, remediation and other types of environmental and engineering projects is preferred for our Canfield, Ohio office. Desired applicant is expected to grow into the role of planning and directing field portions of assessments, investigations, and studies, preparing reports, establishing scopes of work, budgets and schedules, and directing technical efforts of other scientists, database managers, engineers, and subcontractors. Job duties would initially be focused on supervising and conducting fieldwork, with follow-up work preparing summary tables, figures, and report development for client deliverable submissions.

The functions to be performed include, but may not be limited to, the following.

  • Task management of small environmental and geotechnical projects;
  • Establish scopes of work, budgets, and schedules;
  • Plan and perform hydrogeological and geotechnical investigations and remediation projects;
  • Manage and as needed, perform field testing, sampling, and investigative fieldwork;
  • Provide technical input on geological and hydrogeological aspects of projects;
  • Plan and conduct aquifer testing in the field (pump tests, slug, tests, etc.);
  • Create hydrogeological models, potentiometric maps, and isoconcentration maps;
  • Assume field supervisor role for investigations/projects;
  • Support and perform project fieldwork as required;
  • Assume supporting roles in proposals and marketing;
  • Communicate issues to senior managers and clients;
  • Supervise and prepare written reports, accurately describing assessment and investigative findings;
  • Deliver outstanding client service through timely response and proactive solutions.
Additional responsibilities may include:
  • Supervising and directing subcontractors including drillers, laboratories, and others;
  • Logging soil cores and conducting other typical field activities;
  • Sampling various environmental media and wastes;
  • Sample collection using various sampling methods;
  • Groundwater and hydrogeological modeling of field and other collected data.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor (BS/BE) degree in Geology or Engineering with 3+ years of experience and a minimum of 1 year of directly related task management experience performing environmental site assessments, investigations, and remediation projects. Experience and working knowledge of hydrogeological modeling software is desired. Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental requirements. Candidate must be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a professional and team-oriented environment. Candidate must also have the ability to manage a heavy workload at times, supervise and conduct field activities, and travel as needed, sometimes on short notice. Travel required may be up to 50%. Excellent written and verbal communication, client interaction and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications is required. The candidate should have a basic understanding and working knowledge of general and state specific environmental and engineering rules and regulations.

Other Skills/Requirements: Ability to obtain professional registration/licensing within 2 years of being hired. Prior completion of OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training and subsequent OSHA refresher training is preferred.

Ability to read, research, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical documents and procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedures suitable for client submittal. Ability to effectively present information, communicate, and respond to questions from groups of coworkers, clients, customers, and the general public. Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are a must.

Candidate will be conducting field work which could potentially require the following: Performing strenuous outdoor fieldwork, exposed to varying weather conditions, wearing FR clothing; facilitate operation of equipment and collecting samples; moving earth via shovels or hand augers; lifting of pumps, other sample collection or measurement equipment, cases containing equipment, sample coolers and other items weighing between 1 and 50 pounds; and potential exposure to natural (e.g., poison ivy) and chemical hazards.

Computer Skills, Microsoft Windows – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Candidate must be proficient working with personal computers and basic software applications (Microsoft Office Suite™). Familiarity with GIS, CAD, gINT, survey techniques and mapping, as well as familiarity or working knowledge of various commercially available groundwater modeling programs is a plus.
