Under general supervision, the Mechanical Engineer will work on the design and development of state-of-the-art mechanical components and systems for use in and with towed sonar systems. These include but are not limited to underwater array couplers, array strength members, vibration isolation, and mounts for sensors in towed arrays. Additionally, technical support for major sub-contracts may be required for the design and development of hydraulic and electric winches and/or marine tow-cables.
The design and development of state-of-the-art marine equipment, both internally and through major sub-contracts.
Use of advanced 3D/2D drawing tools for mechanical design such as SolidWorks.
The use of advanced tools for mechanical analysis of designs including the use of finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as COMSOL or similar.
Provide structural analysis and failure analysis with the use of vibration theory and or modal analysis.
Development of technical performance specifications and corresponding acceptance testing criteria for major sub-contracts.
Support to GD&T and drawing production to current standards.
Development and/or improvement of manufacturing processes and technologies for construction of components.
The design and development of verification tests (DVT) involving the measurement of key performance parameters to satisfy product qualification.
Other tasks as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in a mechanical engineering
The Candidate must be capable of acquiring a Secret security clearance and a Canadian Controlled Goods assessment to the satisfaction of the company.
5+ years of mechanical engineering design experience.
5+ years of supervisory experience responsible for reviewing and approving the mechanical designs and associated documentation produced by peers, junior engineering and technical staff.
Demonstrable hands-on experience in the design and development of marine mechanical structures.
Candidates with advanced degrees in the design and development of marine mechanical structures, with constitute years of experience is an advantage.
Reasoning ability: Ability to define and document complicated problems and relationships, collect and document data, and establish facts by direct conclusions or deductive reasoning.
Willing to comprehend an extensive variety of instructions in verbal or written form; descriptions may be in mathematical or diagram form.
Problems and relationships may contain multi-dimensional levels, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: Experience in using SolidWorks or similar design tools plus ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar FEA tools are required.
Experience in the use of MS-Project, LabVIEW, or MatLab is highly desirable.
