The Opportunity: We are seeking highly motivated and technical master in the materials engineering skillset working with the new product development engineering team.

Summary/Objective Chemical/Materials Engineer 5S is a Sr. Engineering position with significant depth and breadth of chemical and materials engineering knowledge and expertise. This is a senior role that will support materials development and chemical processing projects at all New York Air Brake manufacturing sites.

Provide specialized analysis and technical guidance on the use of chemicals/materials in product development and manufacturing processes
Serve in a project technical expert/lead role while working with external labs or firms
Develop, execute, and test experimental designs to investigate processing problems or improvements
Monitor how materials perform and determine root causes of product failure.
Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to the design of manufacturing processes and/or products
Specify engineering materials and manufacturing processes
Must understand and support all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies.
Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
Must understand, support and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures and instructions.
Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree.

Expert in materials analysis for robustness, quality, reliability, safety, cost.
Expert in characterization of materials to resolve failures and to enable product enhancements.
Expert in applying new materials and treatments to existing and new products in breakthrough ways to significantly enhance performance
Expert in development of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
Understands imperial and metric units of measure
Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proficient with NYAB Engineering systems and processes.
Understands Six-Sigma and engineering/quality statistics.
Proficient with scheduling, planning, and program management.
Communication Skills - Comprises the ability to speak, present, write, listen and distribute information effectively and create an environment for open communication.
Analytical Thinking - Refers to collecting, analyzing and structuring information using a wide perspective in order to identify key issues and patterns as well as to drawing conclusions.

Required Experience

>12 Years of Relevant Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry and/or other relevant technical disciplines

Preferred Education and Experience

>20 years of relevant experience

Master’s Degree

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Supervisory Responsibility This position has 0-1 direct personnel

Work Environment The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e. noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc.

Physical Demands The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of an office work environment position.
