ArcelorMittal Global Research & Development Center is seeking a highly skilled and motivated applications engineer to provide technical expertise, vehicle pre-program and program support to ArcelorMittal automotive customers’ team in North America. Candidate will be required to support the R&D safety management system, understand automotive technology needs, and clearly translate these needs to ArcelorMittal stakeholders (R&D, commercial, production). The candidate will be required to utilize technical knowledge and resources in order to create value for ArcelorMittal and automotive OEM’s through technical business development activities.
With focus on Emerging Electric Vehicle OEM’s, and promotion of Electrical Non-Grain Oriented steel products (iCARe®), develop, maintain and interact with key automotive engineering contacts at their Engineering centers.
Maintain a sound knowledge of AM Global Flat Rolled and iCARe® steel products in order to recommend solutions to customers' requested product needs.
Assist the ArcelorMittal customer team in value engineering and develop innovative cost savings proposals.
Pilot steel product development needed by the automotive customer.
Coordinate and seek material and facility approval and qualifications, as needed, and support the customer team business goals.
Support the Customer Team and customer and understand and clearly identify product issues, market trends and forecasts, customer solutions and the competition.
Contribute to and execute the ArcelorMittal Customer Strategy for the Emerging Electric Vehicle OEM’s (in conjunction with Sales and Marketing), to maximize business and return that will add value to ArcelorMittal.
Initiate customer contacts and develop strong internal and external relationships to respond to wide ranging customer inquiries (e.g. technical seminars, material characteristics, specifications, trial steel supply, etc.) by engaging global resources to enable ArcelorMittal to achieve a high technical relationship with our customers.
Assist with any IAC/Capex projects related to expansion of iCARe® products to North America.
Assist with or coordinate marketing activities with new automotive OEM’s or their suppliers (Tier One or Tier Two companies) in order to assess the potential of establishing working relationships.
B.S. (minimum) or M.S. (preferred) in Materials Science, Flat Rolled Metallurgy, or Mechanical Engineering.
5 years of minimum related experience in the automotive or steel industry
Must be knowledgeable in automotive flat rolled and electrical sheet steel products/processes and their attributes and understand critical characteristics and how these translate to automotive design and manufacturing. A metallurgical background and/or experience is preferred.
Good communications skills are essential as the candidate will be required to build excellent customer relations through technical knowledge.
Good project time management and project management skills will be required as candidate will have to coordinate and participate or lead technical projects involving cross-functional teams.
Sound knowledge of OEM and industry steel specifications is an asset can will be developed on the job.
Must be open to international and domestic travel, up to 25% (especially with Emerging BEV OEM’s located in California).
