The OSP Engineer / Designer will work collaboratively with the engineering / design team on the production of outside plant design for fiber-based telecommunications infrastructure projects and will report to the Project Manager – OSP Engineering and Design. Responsibilities will include the planning, design, permitting, and documentation of communications infrastructure, with an emphasis on Wireless and OSP fiber optic cable infrastructure projects. Extensive knowledge of the standards and specifications of utility Right-of-Way owners, utility owners and OSP construction practices for fiber optic cable plant is required.
Major Job Elements
Consult with customer to define requirements and preferred construction methods.
Coordinate field surveys of outside plant aerial and underground network facilities; develop running line, splice sheets, loss budgets and other design elements.
Research and define local jurisdictional regulations, coordinate permit application process and ensure that design conforms to specifications.
Interpret underground and aerial telecom facilities records on maps and fielding notes.
Coordinate make-ready-engineering process with utility owners.
Monitor and evaluate design quality and scheduled delivery as defined by the Engineering Manager.
Coordinate make-ready-construction with utility owner and third-party attachers.
Liaise with OSP field teams and client to determine component selection, routing and network architecture guidelines in order to produce detailed designs.
Work with the construction project managers and / or field personnel to ensure quality and timely delivery of design and engineering services.
Assist in troubleshooting plant mapping and design (as necessary)
Ensure system compliance with FCC regulations and operating specifications
Evaluate design for engineering and support design process improvement definition and execution
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related technical field.
5+ years of relevant telecommunication industry experience required.
Experience with CAD and GIS-enabled field survey tools required.
Working knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of outside plant designs.
Strong organization and project management skills.
Strong knowledge of RF and optical networks.
Familiarity with design standards relative to RF systems.
Experience with OSP telecommunication industry engineering processes and practices, and their impact on project activities.
