Position Title: Battery System Validation Engineer
Reports To: Manager of Software Development
Classification: Exempt
Status: Regular Full-time

Job Description Summary

The Battery System Validation Engineer will be responsible for the development and maintenance of system integration, validation in the high voltage lab, and the associated test plans, test cases, reports and activities. They will be at the forefront of customer and system level validation by defining algorithm validating test cases up front to assure SW and HW issues are surfaced prior to customer experience. The applications will range from heavy duty transit such as busses (300kwh), to larger applications such as ships (>= 4MWh). This engineer will be involved in development efforts for each release of the embedded software and will be a key member of an enthusiastic team to deliver high-quality, robust battery systems through collaboration and testing.

Primary Responsibilities:
Own the Customer Interface level System DVPR.
Create Battery Management System-level validation test plans and test specifications.
Lead the effort to implement and execute algorithm performance tests, preferably automated.
Design, document, and manage test plans based on variants and software release level. Be responsible for deploying and maintaining this system.
Perform test cases on High Voltage Energy Storage Systems and/or Hardware-In-Loop tester
Automate new and existing test specifications using industry standard tools and processes
Develop IBM (Rational) DOORs infrastructure for linking validation testing to requirements
Build test reports and other documentation to support traceability and demonstrate validation which are robust to assessment under ISO 9001, ISO 26262, IEC61508, and relevant EN railway standards
Learn the XALT SW development process and workflow and strive to maintain those guidelines.
Continuous review and improvement of XALT processes, procedures, and templates.
Support the XALT Problem Management Process by participating in investigations, 8Ds work packages, and auditing SW changes required to rectify field issues in a timely manner.

Education Requirements:
Minimum, a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical, Electronics, Software, or Controls Engineering.

Specific Required Experience:
3 years of applied experience in quality assurance methods (TS16949/QS9000 or ISO, ASPICE)
Exposure (certification preferred) to ISO26262, IEC 61508, or equivalent is a plus
Minimum 3 years’ experience working with each of the following test and automation tools:
Energy Storage Systems (like AVL or ABC)
Automation Packages (dSPACE ControlDesk, Automation Desk, etc)
Vector CAN tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape) and scripting tools (CAPL)
Experience working in software/system development processes and methodologies in regulated industry areas (E.g. Waterfall, Scrum, Agile, etc.)
The candidate is preferred 4 years of experience testing, “Automotive Quality” embedded systems.
Competency in reading C Code, Autogenerated C Code, and MATLAB / Simulink Models
Demonstrate ability to understand complex electronic and mechanical systems
Experience working with IBM / Rational DOORs Requirement Management Software
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal and presentation skills
Experience with statistical analysis of data in order to establish pass/fail criteria
Past High Voltage exposure or High Voltage training a plus.
History of designing equipment and hardware; using schematic and CAD programs to create plans for Test equipment a plus

Position Qualifications:
Ability to travel up to 5% of the time. In most cases, travel would be limited to day trips to Midland, Michigan for meetings.
