Works in close collaboration with Rockwell Automation senior leadership, business units, resource groups, and peer researchers to identify, develop and demonstrate advanced power electronics, control and mechatronics concepts. Works on multidisciplinary engineering problems requiring a wide range of expertise in electrical, mechanical, and system engineering. Performs front-end technology assessments. Leads development of technology roadmaps coordinating with marketing, business development, business leadership and other functions as necessary. Performs prototyping and demonstrations to support assessment and technology transition. Actively collaborates with business and resource technologists as a subject matter expert (SME) to support new product development and advantageous enhancements to existing products.
Performs research & development (R&D) on multidisciplinary engineering problems with a focus on power electronics, motor/motion control.
Develops theoretical approaches to technical problems, performs confirmatory analysis and/or testing.
Represent Rockwell Automation’s Advanced Technology laboratory on appropriate internal and external committees and boards. Efforts likely include national and international standards committee work.
Perform literature reviews, hands-on prototyping, experimentation, demonstration and documentation as needed to support assigned work.
Identify and document intellectual property.
Become internal SME to internal product development, engineering and sales teams.

Master’s degree in one of the following: Physics, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Control Engineering (inclusive of Robotics and Autonomous Systems), Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Computing, Applied Mathematics & Computer Science, Mathematics
At least 2 years of experience in a laboratory environment. (includes graduate work)
At least 1 year experience in one of the following areas: (includes graduate work) Power electronics, Power conversion, Motor drive systems, Motion control systems
Demonstrated proficiency in at least computer programming language.
Demonstrated proficiency in safely developing and fabricating prototype machines inclusive of electrical, mechanical and electromechanical systems.
Proficient in at least one multiphysics simulation, modeling and analysis tool.
Proficient in written and spoken English.
Experience in digital and analog circuit design
Experience with modeling power electronic systems using tools such as Simplorer, Spice, FEA, etc.
Experience with industrial automation environments including PLC programming.
Demonstrated ability for abstract thought.
Experience in front-end technology development and product opportunity identification.
Ability to lead others through influence.
Demonstrated project management skills/PMP.
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills – published papers, conference presentations, business engagement experience.
Proficiency in Python, Java, R, Julia, Matlab, Scala, C, C# and/or C++.
Proficient in generating technical documentation in LaTeX.
