As a member of an interdisciplinary team responsible for total ship survivability engineering, you will be responsible for activities related to vulnerability and recoverability. Essential responsibilities include:
Review of technical drawings, analysis of design fitness, and implementation of alternative solutions and development of corresponding deliverables.
Develop and implement test plans, procedures, and requirements verification tracking in areas relating to survivability including vulnerability and recoverability.
Perform technical design reviews with respect to survivability design and participate in relevant Integrated Product Teams.
Analyze and define system requirements which impact the ability to achieve project defined margins, classification society design approvals, and certificates from certification authorities.
Develop design deliverables and present results to customers.
Engage in technical negotiations with equipment and material vendors and review vendor design products and vendor furnished information.
Identify and address risk items relating to areas of responsibility, including identification and risk mitigation planning.
Identify deficiencies, develop design and process improvements related to safety, productivity, reliability and maintainability where applicable.
Develop and foster client, subcontractor, and classification society relationships.
Support a culture of teamwork, enthusiasm, and proactive behavior
Active Security Clearance Preferred or Ability to Obtain a Clearance.
B.S. is Naval Architecture, Marine or Mechanical Engineering or a relevant Engineering Discipline.
2 - 4 Years of ship design or maritime operational and damage control experience.
Experience incorporating vulnerability reduction features such as separation, redundancy, armoring, etc. into marine systems and platform design holistically.
Experience with damage mitigation concepts related to events such as Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) defense, ballistic penetration, underwater shock, air blast, collision, grounding, conflagration, etc.
Experience with Modelling and Simulation (M&S) for ship vulnerability and recoverability, performing associated data analysis for design improvement recommendations, and/or implementation of results into live damage control exercises.
Strong understanding of damage control doctrine including system activation and human-in-the-loop actions in the event of shipboard flooding and fire.
Strong oral, written and presentation skills
Demonstrated background in working with multidisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated experience working independently, remote team members and/or customers.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
Experience with requirement development and/or maturation related to ship survivability.
Working knowledge of naval architecture, marine systems, and platform design principles.
Experience performing engineering calculations and tests for validating system performance.
Experience working on naval ship design, commercial shipbuilding, or other large military procurement program.
Experience working with classification society rules and classification societies to achieve plan approval for vessel designs and products.
Experience preparing design products for a ship design or major ship upgrade design program.
