Hyliion is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Cedar Park, Texas. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun. You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems. In this role, you will be developing a subsystem of the vehicle, taking designs from the conceptual stage through final implementation and production.
Design of hybrid automotive systems including mechanical and electromechanical systems
Application of Finite Element Analysis toolsets to optimize designs
Implementation of APQP toolsets including FMEAs and DVP&Rs to develop robust product validation plans
Collaborate with teams of engineers working in other disciplines and other system components
3D Solid modeling using parametric tools and PDM software.
Tolerance stack-up analysis and creation of detailed prints using GD&T methodologies
Development of detailed cost models and product cost roadmaps
Interaction with numerous suppliers to ensure hardware meets design requirements
Analysis for cost, manufacturability, safety, durability, serviceability of existing and proposed designs
Hands-on form/fit/function verification of prototype components, sub-assemblies, and final assembly
Take input based on the manufacturing team and external stakeholders and use it to improve the design,
Generate design documentation with the purpose of fostering collaboration and allowing others to check your work
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
3-5 yrs. of Mechanical Engineering experience preferred, but not required
Product and/or project development experience
Understanding of vehicle powertrains and hybrid systems.
Automotive, Aerospace, or heavy equipment industry experience preferred
Tooling and/or equipment design experience
Ability to read, understand and generate manufacturing documentation.
Self motivated, self starter and strong follow through.
Ability to positively communicate with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments.
Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
Strong software tools proficiency in Solid Modeling and Project Data/Lifecycle Management
Expert level with Finite Element Analysis of structural systems is a plus.
Knowledge and experience with Lithium Ion systems preferred.
