Lead Packaging Engineer

The Lead Packaging Engineer is a vital part of our vehicle integration team. This position is responsible for overseeing the packaging checks and clearance checks of the vehicle. As well as support vehicle virtual builds and creation of criteria layouts for regulatory checks.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
· Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a Full time basis
The Packaging Engineer designs, tests, and implements packaging designs that are an integral part of the Automotive Product Development process. They also review and improve existing packaging designs.
· Handles the complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing
· Fix new and existing packaging issues involving designs, materials, processes and provides creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions
· Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications of product to resolve physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging
· Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation
· Evaluate and manage packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conducts vendor reviews
· Handle multiple projects simultaneously
· Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations and sourcing teams
· Participate in product team commodity meetings to deliver new / existing products to market
· Support the creation of criteria layouts for compliance checks and provide solutions for compliance issue resolution
Skills Required:
- Catia (V5~V6) and Teamcenter and/or equivalent product lifecycle management (PLM) experience
- 5 ~ 10 years of relevant automotive experience
- Vehicle design background, in-depth understanding of mobility product and manufacturing operations
- Experience with all applicable automotive systems packaging and mounting applications
- Competent in 3D CAD, including solid modeling, surfacing, assemblies, and drafting skills
- Ability to apply and interpret GD&T
- Ability to create parametric solids and free form surfaces
- Ability to evaluate complex tolerance stack-up
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- High level of oral and written communication
- High level of analytical skills to solve complex problems
- Ability to work autonomously
- Ability to work any shift as the business dictates
Education:
- Associate Degree in Automotive Design (preferred), Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering Sciences (preferred)
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience using Catia (V4~V5~V6) (Required)
- High School Diploma (Required)
