Strategic Sourcing Engineer

Role + Responsibilities
The Strategic Sourcing Engineer will lead efforts in exploring, developing, and executing opportunities in NAFTA spend growth, quality improvements and total cost savings.
The individual in this role will act as both the technical and commercial liaison between suppliers and E+H sourcing and engineering teams. Primary categories of responsibility will include Machining, Sheet Metal and Forgings.
Lead supplier selection process in NAFTA region to develop a regional supply base that provides competitive advantage in quality, value/cost, delivery and technology.
Develop an understanding of E+H technical requirements and supplier manufacturing processes to identify and remove roadblocks and grow capabilities of NAFTA suppliers to taken on global spend. Facilitate design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews with suppliers in the NAFTA region.
Research potential sources of supply for purchased products to ensure prices are globally competitive and sufficient production capacity is available within the supply chain. Understand the market price or “Should Cost” price for key products.
Collaborate with Category Sourcing Managers, Production Engineers, and Supplier Quality to ensure the integrity and clarity of engineering drawing requirements and that all expectations are communicated effectively to supporting suppliers during RFx process.
Lead or participate in supplier selection, capability assessment, quality improvement, and supplier readiness. Conduct supplier system and process audits in compliance with E+H’s supplier performance and monitoring goals and objectives.
Use project management skills and tools to investigate alternate component technologies for reduced cost or improved quality and reliability and implement changes.
Facilitate and lead root cause problem investigation and resolution through design and process prevention. Lead or participate in the development and maintenance of supplier process development; supplier scorecards and supplier evaluation.
Qualification + Profile
Minimum Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent program
3+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual English and Spanish a plus.
Experience of machining, sheet metal and/or forgings processes is required.
Knowledge of world class quality techniques and implementation.
Lean manufacturing and continual process improvement experience.

Knowledge of several manufacturing methods is required: machining, fabricated sheet metal, stamping, forgings, etc.
Experience in designing products and/or manufacturing processes.
Experience in DFM, VA/VE, and cost-out activities and product teardowns.
Candidates with certifications like Six Sigma, CQA, CQE, and SAVE are given preference. Previous experience in dealing with suppliers, quality documentation, implementing process and design changes in products with support from cross functional teams is important.
Experience in Tool and Die Making (Tool Design) is a plus.
Demonstrated capability to drive cost down, develop or improve mechanical components and assemblies using analytical and cost modeling methods.
Commercial awareness and experience from suppliers in Mexico.
Knowledge of ISO and other recognized international quality system standards.
Professional experience in procurement, engineering, supply chain and/or quality management.
Knowledge of and experience with 2D/3D mechanical computer aided design tools such as Pro-E or similar SW tools
Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, MS Project, Excel, Power point, MRP).
