This Materials Engineer will have experience in stainless steel and aluminum alloys in order to provide technical support to manufacturing and engineering facilities. Job responsibilities listed below:
1- Perform failure analysis and provide countermeasures for manufacturing and warranty issues / returns.
2- Support design engineering on material selections for different application, and work closely with purchasing for cost avoidance, cost savings and eliminate supply issues.
3- Research material suppliers, new material development advances and provide cost effective solutions for new and current development.
4- Train different engineering groups on materials selection, usage and applications.
5- Perform material testing and create material test reports.
6- Apply Marelli material approval gate stage process for material approvals.
7- Work closely with different engineering groups through Marelli taking lead on material approval process.
8- Work alongside with stainless steel and aluminum material suppliers to support material approvals.
9- Participate with design engineering and purchasing in plant process survey of North American stainless steel and aluminum suppliers.
10- Support CAE engineers by providing stress-strain data and other materials mechanical properties.
11- Understand industry / customer standards and specifications to provide material recommendations and create internal specifications and procedures.
12- Working with wide range of products (mainly heat exchanger and exhaust)
13- Perform or supervise material lab testing and provide training when required.
14- Write and maintain equipment operating procedures. Maintain lab safety.
15- Coordinate lab equipment calibration as well as preventive maintenance activities.
16- Communicate with materials global experts for efficiency projects during non-core business hours.
1- MS degree in metallurgical engineering, metallurgy, or materials science.
2- 3+ years as a Metallurgist, Metallurgical Engineer, Product Engineer or Process Engineer - preferably in an Aluminum and Steel Manufacturing environment. Experience in metallurgical lab will also be considered.
3- Must have experience on metals, especially aluminum and stainless steel.
4- Must be experienced in both optical and SEM metallography and fractography for failure analysis.
5- Must be experienced in OES and SEM-EDS for chemical analysis.
6- Must have experience in root cause analysis for metal failure due to wear and corrosion and also provide problem solving solutions to manufacturing.
7- Experience in mounting and polishing for plastic materials is desirable.
8- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and able to draft technical reports.
9- Ability to travel overseas and domestic to support internal and external customer requests.
