The main purpose of the Development Engineer is to develop and optimize all manufacturing processes required to produce new compression/injection molded parts in compliance with cost and lead time constraints, internal, external, and regulatory part qualification and production manufacturing requirements within the Bristol, Rhode Island and the Cleveland, Ohio locations.
Travel - ~25-50% (Trips to Bristol, RI facility)
Essential functions include:
Develop manufacturing processes for all new parts to comply with customer requirements for part qualification and production scenarios. Support the product realization process for new product introduction to ensure production readiness for the life of the program. Troubleshoot manufacturing processes to optimize manufacturing cost and overall product quality.
Participate in contract review, develop part router structures, bills of Materials, and related inputs in site ERP software. Issues jobs and coordinate planning of part manufacturing operations, and design and direct the creation of mold tooling, fixtures, and custom gauges.
Manage projects from contract receipt through delivery to ensure products are manufactured safely and in compliance with customer requirements. Ensure effective communication with sales, quality, operations, purchasing and planning to drive projects to completion within lead time and budget.
Support the development of all internal drawings and process control documentation for all new processes including work instructions. Support quality documentation efforts in accordance with customer quality requirements including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) as required. Coordinate compliance of all inspection and part qualification activity per customer requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar discipline required.
3+ years of experience as an Engineer in a Manufacturing Environment
1+ year experience Molding/Machining of plastics and composites or the aerospace field is preferred
CAD experience (Solidworks preferred)
MS Project Experience, Visio, Project Management software and drawing software
Thorough understanding of GD&T and Engineering Drawing Practices
Excellent written and verbal communication across all levels of the organization
