GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting and challenging opportunity with advancement and growth potential for an Energy Engineer in the Energy Efficiency and Renewables Department. GDS is seeking a qualified individual to support commercial and industrial energy efficiency and demand management programs. This position is based out of the Manchester, NH office with telecommute options. The main responsibilities are listed below.
Conducting industry standard (ASHRAE or equivalent) energy audits in commercial and industrial buildings.
Preparing and managing the development of energy audit reports, including on-site data collection and identification of electric and natural gas energy conservation opportunities, technical energy savings analysis, construction cost estimating, written report development and interaction with clients throughout the process.
Performing energy engineering studies including retro-commissioning, chiller-plant optimization, industrial process evaluation and others.
Coordinating with trade allies and contractors to develop firm fixed costs for energy conservation projects.
Using energy modeling software (DOE 2, eQuest, Trane Trace, EnergyPlus, etc.), Excel worksheets, and on-line web tools/benchmarking models to calculate and verify energy savings.
Providing energy efficiency and renewable energy program implementation and technical assistance support for utility clients, state agencies, organizations and direct end-use customers.
Conducting energy efficiency program measurement and verification activities including field measurements of temperature, air/water flow rates, chilled- and hot-water loads, electrical power and other data logging.
Developing and reviewing engineering estimates of energy savings for energy efficiency, renewable energy and demand response measures and programs.
Presenting energy efficiency opportunities to end-use customers, clients and other stakeholders.
The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Department (EERD) provides expertise in addressing the complex engineering, scientific, and economic issues associated with energy efficiency and renewable energy resources that impact utilities, government agencies, developers, and their customers. Our NH office specifically provides energy efficiency and renewable energy consulting services to our utility and end-use clients throughout New England. The ideal candidate would be someone comfortable with taking a leading role, has a passion for energy efficiency and a strong desire to grow technically. The candidate will be presented with the challenge of a diverse range of projects found in commercial and industrial energy systems. This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects and workloads in a consulting environment.
Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
Minimum 2 years of related experience with commercial/industrial building system design and/or evaluation. 4 years of related experience preferred.
Working knowledge of major building energy systems, design and operation. Experience with industrial process is preferred but not required.
An understanding of building automation systems, sequences of operation and controls drawings preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access).
Strong analytical skills and knowledge of spreadsheet-based analysis techniques.
Strong working knowledge of energy modeling applications (eQUEST or similar) is preferred.
Effective technical writing and oral communication skills for working with customers and clients.
Collaboration and team-oriented, hands-on field work and client-focused.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer License (PE) is preferred.
Available for moderate domestic travel (10-40%).
