The regional process engineer will provide technical support to the operating sites on new and existing processes and will be an expert resource for information for the design and installation of all types of process equipment applicable to the lime manufacturing processes. Will also participate in CI projects to improve process efficiencies and coordinate some capital planning, or other engineering projects within area of responsibility.
Responsibilities, Skills & Experience
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
Provide technical assistance in solving equipment and process problems: (90%)
Lead process audits including heat and mass balance measurements and calculations to identify improvement opportunities.
Lead studies on raw materials and their processing to determine and evaluate potential improvements and impact on quality and efficiency
Understand and lead rigorous statistical analysis of process data.
Work closely with Automation Engineers and plant personnel to ensure instrumentation standards are current and implemented correctly using the best control strategies.
Work within CI teams to improve plant operating efficiencies.
Provide assistance on capital projects in the region: (10%)
Prepare CERs for small capex projects, primarily focused on investments to support process improvement (~<$100K).
Assist Finance with technical supporting data for CAFÉ forms on these and other applicable projects.
Support the plants’ budgeting process for capital by helping to identify needed projects that will lead to overall improved process efficiency..
Plan and assist in capital expansions, machine and equipment replacement, and changes in technology and general process improvements:
Develop Capex Requests for new improvement projects.
Perform process analysis / review of proposed projects.
Function as a facilitator / technical advisor to operations:
Provide facts & data for evaluating system improvement opportunities.
Assist with implementation of system improvements & projects.
Develop Standard Operating Procedures for approval.
Formulate and present technical training.
Be proactive with project follow up & system audits to insure improvements are sustained.
Provide assistance and guidance in safety in design and practices.
Manage capital projects to insure they are completed on time and within budget:
Prepare scope documents for projects assigned in accordance with guidelines developed by the operating team.
Assist operating teams in developing the scope for assigned projects.
Develop a cost estimate or direct the work of an engineering firm employed
Positive and proactive attitude. Ability to perform with minimal supervision on multiple projects in a continuous manufacturing environment is essential.
Technical aptitude and analytical skills.
Detail and process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities.
Effectively work with all levels of organization. Able and willing to spend the majority of time in the plant with the Operators, Supervisors, and Mechanics.
Excellent communication, presentation and computer skills using Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Large ERP’s such as SAP experience preferred.
Operating knowledge of rotary kilns, ball mills, firing systems, crushing/sizing, hydrators.
Knowledgeable in all phases of process evaluation and equipment application.
Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:
Work may be during weekends or nights depending on project requirements.
Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to high temperatures, noise, and dust.
Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to travel to plant sites about 50% of the time.
Required Experience: One to five (1-5) years mechanical, process, or project management experience.
Required Education: B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or other applicable engineering discipline.
