General Position Summary:
Materials Research Analyst is directly responsible for the development of materials from concept to commercialization for a segment of the Columbia Sportswear product line, managing the process and interface between partners within the manufacturing department and product creation teams. Ensuring raw materials remain true to the product/end user’s needs and the consumer products intended use.

Essential Functions/ Major Responsibilities:
Develop strong team partnerships with Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Fit Engineering, Quality Assurance, Sourcing, Costing and Liaison office staff to ensure a coordinated and efficiently executed product line.
Own the raw materials development process for assigned category
With design and sourcing teams, determine seasonal needs and identify regions/suppliers.
In alignment with established source plan, utilizing knowledge of suppliers’ abilities/limitations and strengths/weaknesses to ensure high standards of performance can be met in development as well as reproduced in bulk.
Collaborate with global partners regarding supplier placement, specific performance, aesthetic and testing, as well as offer technical guidance during the development process and bulk.
Ensure costs are analyzed and negotiated to best possible price based on current market conditions with guidance from material costing team.
Partner with materials quality team to perform risk assessment on materials and with Liaison Offices develop action plans to ensure best in class quality.
Be an active participant and facilitate the timely development and commercialization of the seasonal product category.
Stay abreast of new technologies in the textile market and pursue innovation at all times.

Specific Job Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required in merchandising, apparel design or related field or equivalent years or experience.
3+ years’ experience in raw materials or related field and/or relevant experience in materials development, quality, sourcing.
Must have working knowledge of raw materials, familiarity with raw material construction methods and manufacturing, raw materials testing and appropriate interpretation of lab results as they pertain to products.
Possess working knowledge of materials and functional aspects of garments.
Possess strong organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict timelines, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work extended hours if necessary.
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to deal with various levels of management and partners within the organization, raw materials vendors and global personnel.
Ability to motivate and influence individuals involved in the development process. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Physical ability to travel globally on commercial transportation; visual acuity for analyzing samples and color; sitting, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds and finger dexterity.
