We seek a highly creative and driven Protein Scientist Process Engineer to join our Process Engineering team. You will work within a highly dynamic group serving as a resource and liaison between Development, Manufacturing and Quality. You will act independently to address pre- or post-launch manufacturing, quality control, and customer issues to include troubleshooting problems and improving products or processes. Improvement in processes will increase yields, quality, reproducibility and flexibility; will decrease failure rates and turn-around times; will improve documentation, characterization and tracking where required; and will facilitate inter-departmental transfer of goods.
Provide technical support to Manufacturing in the investigation and resolution of problems, corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs), planned deviations, risk assessments and process changes.
Troubleshoot problems for both internal and external customers regarding protein product line; evaluate and research the issues using data-based facts; coordinate action plan activities with all involved to ensure the planning, organization, and adjustment of the execution of plans with regard for priorities and time constraints.
In consultation with Development and Operations, collaborate to identify, propose, and execute process and procedural changes to improve process performance, robustness, productivity and efficiency.
Develop joint efforts between Process Engineering and other departments to maximize effectiveness and collaboration. Incorporate continuous process improvement on a schedule that is least disruptive to product release and sales and, in fact, improves product release and sales.
Supervise junior Process Engineers in the protein team.
Proactively identify problems and troubleshoot solutions
Troubleshoot and resolve process related problems observed at manufacturing scale via the evaluation of data from manufacturing lots.
Perform independent data analysis and interpretation to develop strategies for optimization and troubleshooting.
Act as a technical resource for the Process Engineering team and others across the organization, developing in-depth knowledge of protein and antibody purification processes.
Participate in the assessment and development of new innovative technologies and enhance fundamental understanding of current processes.
Participate in manufacturing transfers and collaboratively troubleshoot issues.
Participate collaboratively in the scale-up activities for existing and new products.
Support evaluation of new technologies for laboratory instrumentation.
Foster process harmonization and workflow optimizations within the purification teams.
Build and maintain effective collaborations with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Development, Quality Assurance and Quality Control groups.
Demonstrate breadth of knowledge in biology, biochemistry, purification development and operations with the ability to apply this knowledge to the design, implementation and interpretation of experiments
PhD in a biological or engineering science with 1-3 years of industry related experience, Master’s Degree with 3-6+ years of related industry experience or Bachelor’s Degree with 8-10+ years of experience
Demonstrated knowledge in protein and antibody purification processes and characterization techniques
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to leverage emerging trends in biotechnology to solve complex problems
Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and documentation skills are required
Ability to generate results and perform work with minimal supervision.
Comfortable in a fast-paced, diverse environment with ability to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
In-depth knowledge of R&D Systems and Bio-Techne’s protein and antibody product lines and their processes from development to product release and product support.
Experience working under GMP guidelines.
Strong team player, self-motivated, and willing to learn new techniques and concepts.
Skills in establishing effective interpersonal relationships such as the ability to solicit key ideas and information, and ability to collaborate with others to arrive at a conclusion using data-based facts.
Knowledge in product transfer and manufacturing in compliance with ISO quality systems.
