What's in the job...
As we continue our growth, we are adding a newly created position to focus on lean and automation. The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Leader / AME will assist and lead projects to improve processes, streamline the manufacturing product flow and procedures, troubleshoot production issues and ensure continuous improvement of manufacturing process and methods while reducing costs and improving quality and safety. The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will provide subject expertise in the design and implementation of automation solutions in our production processes.
Analyze, plan and ensure the maximum utilization of human, material and machine assets, work force utilization, space requirements and workflow, and layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency in production processes.
Lead the design and implementation of mechanical systems and electrical/controls functions of medium to large sized industrial automation machines (i.e. ABB robotics), including defining machine function algorithms and debugging system functional outputs to meet quality specifications
Lead and/or participate on cross functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing problems and to ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes and methods to improve productivity and quality and by reducing/eliminating waste.
Research and justify capital equipment expenditures, including automation/semi-automation equipment, for efficient and economical manufacture of products.
Design and perform "prove out" of new manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, fixtures, etc., including compliance to quality specifications.
Deploy Lean Manufacturing concepts to the manufacturing facility and support the management team with implementation.
Support production by identifying and eliminating process limitations and bottlenecks.
Conduct time studies and line balancing projects to determine best practices and define standard work.
Advanced Manufacturing Engineer leads Kaizen events in areas of 6S, TPM, Standard Work, Set-up Reduction/SMED, etc.
Continuously drive culture change and acceptance of best practices
Update and document set up sheets, tooling, fixturing, etc.
Work with vendors to test/trial upgrades of existing tooling to improve manufacturing processes.
Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for newly established automated equipment/processes.
Requirements you bring...
Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or related field
5 or more years related experience in a manufacturing setting, plastics manufacturing preferred
Advanced knowledge and programming of PLCs, robots and servos is required
Proven track record of success in applying Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies to improve business outcomes. Certification in one or both areas is strongly preferred
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and/or Solidworks
Individual should be competent in reading mechanical and electrical prints
Individual must be a motivated self-starter and team player with excellent communication skills
Competency with Microsoft Project and leading projects is also a plus
