The Analysis & Test Department of the Mechanical Products Team (MPT) Directorate is seeking an experienced Analyst with working knowledge and documented experience in the area of Mechanical Analysis of highly nonlinear materials at high temperatures, and Test activities in support of all phases of programs including proposal, development and production. This includes developing and optimizing designs to work with high temperature materials, in multiple operating environments spanning the range of flight conditions. This position is in Tucson, AZ.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
As an Engineering Fellow and core team member your tasks will include:
Serving as a strategic leader in Mechanical Analysis and Test who will define where a program or product line is heading or needs to go, while considering the technical and programmatic aspects of how to get there. This includes driving the execution of that strategy across multiple programs.
Being a strong advocate for technical integrity of airframe and material disciplines such as analysis and test of complex structures used in high temperature environments.
Analyzing complex missile structures via classical and/or advanced methods of analysis.
Collaborate with the thermal analysts to analyze the Structural integrity of thermal protection system integration with airframe
Providing technical leadership and developing required technologies to achieve organization growth objectives in hypersonic applications.
Serving as the technical leader in a team environment supporting diverse projects, providing independently determined solutions to create and test thermal protection systems in high temperature vehicle bodies and providing missile flight test support
Effectively collaborating with customers and presenting work products in internal and external reviews
Mentoring and transferring knowledge to engineers
Working independently or leading teams to solve difficult structural and / or thermal issues for airframe structures operating in aggressive, high temperature environments
An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 additional years of experience.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM): (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines)
Twelve (12) years’ experience designing and performing mechanical analysis of complex systems that require collaboration with multiple engineering disciplines.
Experience with design and development of thermal protection systems in vehicle bodies, preferably in hypersonic applications
Experience and Skills in at least three of the following areas:
Demonstrated experience in linear and non-linear stress analysis, fatigue analysis, static test, system dynamic analysis and test
Understanding of fatigue, fracture and fatigue of metallic and nonmetallic material systems at all environments
Experience in vibration analysis and environmental test including vibration and shock. Analysis as well as testing experience with correlation knowledge
Experience working programs from its conceptual design state, define required thermal tasks, understand the critical path and requirements, organize and lead a team through customer design reviews and qualification testing
Demonstrated experience in nonlinear, orthotropic material analysis (i.e., composites, C/C) and Structural integrity evaluation of these material systems
Understanding of behavior of exotic materials under high temperature conditions
Understanding of analyzing material systems that are nonlinear with respect to temperature and stress
Supporting development testing for material characterization as well as subcomponent and flight testing. Reduction of test results for application into vehicle analysis
Development of critical load cases and required testing of material and components - static and dynamic loads
Structural integrity analysis to assess Margin of Safety as well as failure
Structural issues with joints and gaps in high velocity flows and analytically evaluate their strength at temperature
Definition and execution of ground test of Structurally critical phenomena
Author of intellectual property (patent disclosures) or conference/journal publications in the mechanical analysis and test technical area within the past ten (10) years.
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
Advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
With a Bachelor’s Degree, fifteen (15) years’ experience designing and performing mechanical analysis of complex systems that require collaboration with multiple engineering disciplines. (12 years of experience with Master’s degree and 10 years of experience with a Ph.D.)
Recognized technical authority in mechanical analysis and test of complex systems used in high temperature and aggressive environments
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience working with thermal protection systems and materials and defining test methods to prove out thermal protective system designs (e.g., charring, ablation)
Experience developing tests for material characterization as well as subcomponent and flight testing
Experience with quartz lamp, arc jet, wind tunnel and other test methods to quantify aerodynamic heating conditions and correlate aerodynamic heating models
Experience providing electronics cooling thermal management solutions for passively and actively cooled thermal systems including familiarity with analysis approaches for heat pipes, cooling loops, thermoelectric coolers and heat exchangers
Well-known with established relationships in industry.
Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities
Ability to actively participate in definition of team objectives and provide solutions to complex technical tasks.
