Ralph L Wadsworth (RLW) Construction Company provides opportunities to learn and make application technical principles in our internship program. RLW offers both field and office experiences depending on the projects interns are assigned to. Our internships are with the goal to evaluate the candidates' potential as a possible future, full-time employee. We offer internships and opportunity to receive diversified training through on-the-job assignments using the technical skills acquired in college. Each intern will be assigned a mentor to help develop both technical and professional skills. RLW will offer internships in three segments: Heavy Civil, Concrete Commercial, and Piling and Shoring. The intern will assist field engineers/project managers in layout, form design, and subcontractor monitoring, as well as assisting in change order preparations, plan checking, document control, quality control and safety monitoring. Specific tasks are flexible and will be made consistent with the relevant needs of the assigned construction project. Each intern is given specific goals to achieve. Evaluations are based upon successful completion of these goals. Should the internship be mutually satisfying for the intern and the company, an intern may be offered full-time employment. Although interns are not eligible for typical fringe benefit compensation during the internship period, the intern is paid a competitive wage.
Monitor and assist in cost control through all aspects of the construction process.
Assist in scheduling of field labor.
Assist in tracking of change orders.
Participate in initial job planning and layout where possible for each project.
As directed, visit job sites required to account for hours assessed and the progress of each job.
Maintain vital labor tracking database.
Seek out and assess potential material and labor overruns.
Assisting in public relations, claims, subcontractor back charges, and force account work
Assisting in ensuring project’s contractor performance rating above 90 percent
Assists Project Managers in processing all documents required to start-up project as outlined in project checklist, producing subcontract agreements, change orders, pay estimates, and correspondence in a timely manner.

Keep RLW Market Report (job watch list) up-to-date.
Up-date and maintain Bid2Win resource data-base.
Develop and maintain spreadsheet for unit average prices.
Keep unit average price report up-to-date.
Assist in preparing Bids and Proposals by:
Sending and tracking RFQ’s.
Preparing take-off plans.
Preparing bidders list, contact list or good faith effort in EBS.
Assisting with data input at bid time – Bid2Win and EBS.
Assisting in preparing written proposals+.
Assisting with creating job schedules in P6
Junior or Senior
Minimum GPA 2.75
Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Science or Construction Management
Past construction work experience is preferred
Internship Work Schedule:Summer 2019 (May – August) Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 5:00pm, plus overtime. **Please note, schedule is subject to change and availability of intern. However, interns will most likely be expected to work some Saturdays and long days / weeks (45-55 hours a week).
