We are seeking an junior-level environmental scientist, engineer, or geologist in our Portland, Oregon office to perform a variety of field sampling and monitoring activities and to assist with managing, evaluating and reporting monitoring data. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, quick learner who is eager to provide value to our clients and team, who is able to work independently, and who has a strong desire to grow and develop professionally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and execute a variety of environmental field sampling and monitoring projects at sites in Oregon and Washington. Media may include groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil and air. Expect approximately 70/30 percent field to office work with some travel for periods of up to a week. Must be able to lift and manage monitoring equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Perform stormwater monitoring and inspections at various solid waste and industrial facilities and prepare associated documentation.
Review and compile field monitoring paperwork and documentation and assist with preparing technical reports presenting and interpreting the data. Activities include data management, preparing report tables and figures, and assembling high quality reports.
Ensure monitoring and field equipment are in good working order, and maintain the inventory of monitoring supplies and equipment.
Assist with construction oversight and other related activities.
Ensure adherence to client and company policies in all activities including health and safety, security, ethics, and confidentiality.
A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related field required.
Minimum of 3 months of relevant environmental and/or engineering internship, work and/or research experience required. Specific work experience in environmental monitoring preferred.
If an engineer or geologist, the ability to secure an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geologist-in-Training (GIT) within 6 months desirable but not required.
Strong written and verbal communication, documentation, organizational and interpersonal skills with an attention to detail related to collecting scientific data.
Ability to work independently in the field at job sites, and with others in a collaborative team environment, along with the ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects with successful time management.
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office suite. Experience with database/graphics management a plus.
Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) 40-hour training desirable but training will be provided, if needed.
Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.
