Incumbents are responsible for providing entry-level professional engineering support to public improvement projects.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: *
Receives general guidance from the City Engineer and higher-level management staff.

Typical Class Essential Duties
1. Assists with the development of construction project cost estimates; prepares requests for proposals and project plans/specifications; reviews consultant/contractor proposals; and recommends selection of consultants/contractors.

2. Inspects construction and field reviews in progress to determine compliance with designs; and initiates change orders.

3. Reviews permit requests, plans, specifications and contract documents from private developers; determines compliance with codes, ordinances and laws.

4. Maintains records of activities and prepares financial and operational reports.

5. Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge (position requirements at entry):
Knowledge of:

  • Civil engineering principles, practices, and standards.
  • Constructions materials, principles, and practices.
  • Mathematical principles.
  • AutoCAD, computers and related software applications.
  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Associate Engineer I Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • No previous experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid Wyoming Driver’s License is preferred.
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training with the State of Wyoming is preferred.

Associate Engineer II Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience in professional engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid Wyoming Driver’s License is preferred.
  • Valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wyoming.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
City of Casper employees that perform safety-sensitive tasks are subject to pre-employment and/or random drug testing. These tasks include, but may not be limited to:

  • Emergency response/rescue
  • Handling or working with hazardous materials, including chemicals as well as solid and liquid waste
  • Operating or maintaining water and wastewater systems

  • Driving for the City of Casper, whether essential or non-essential
  • Operating power-driven machinery or equipment
  • Handling confidential information, including personnel, health, financial, or attorney-client information
  • Working with or around children

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Incumbents may be subjected to dusts, fumes, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises. Incumbents require sufficient mobility to work in an office setting; stand and sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information; use of hands repetitively to operate finger, handle or feel office equipment and reach with hands and arms. Employees are frequently required to stand and walk. Mental Demands: The incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform highly detailed work under changing, intensive deadlines, on multiple tasks; work with constant interruptions.

Pay: $62,258.00 - $87,161.00 per year
