Under general supervision with broad scope of responsibility, performs complex activities related to the design, testing and evaluation of mechanical systems of complex coating, slicing, frying, cooking or freezing equipment for use in demanding, year round operating industrial food processing plants. Interfaces with applications, sales, marketing and customers to define needs for new or custom features to be developed. May prepare mechanical engineering studies, specifications and cost estimations. Performs state of the art product development activities, including CAD layouts and designs and the implementation of customer specifications. Assists with the solving of unique, mechanically related field problems. Provides creative solutions to reasonably complex mechanical problems and designs, tests and debugs all the appropriate developments and customer applications. Works with manufacturing, sourcing, purchasing and suppliers to optimize the cost/value relationship of the mechanical systems being designed. May provide work leadership and training to lower level professional and technical staff.
Design, test and debug reasonably complex mechanical cooking, coating, frying or freezing systems for orders, product maintenance or new development projects
Interfaces with marketing and customers to define specifications of the required developments
Prepares engineering studies, specifications and cost estimations

Contributes to budgeting and scheduling of projects

Maintain current knowledge on mechanical design and tools
Knowledge and Skills:
BS degree in mechanical or bio-systems, bio-mechanical or similar from an ABET accredited engineering program and zero to three years of relevant experience or MS degree.
Can independently search for technical information. Ability to respond to inquiries from internal and external customers in a proficient and professional manner. Ability to write clear product specifications, project development plans and other forms of written correspondence.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to accomplish job tasks. Must be computer literate, and capable of using spreadsheets, 3-D CAD and other software.
Preferred experience in automatic, industrial food processing equipment and knowledgeable in sanitary design and industrial equipment hazard mitigation. Experience with Auto CAD, Inventor, Pro Engineer or similar CAD systems. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through hands on experience.
