The Mechanical Engineer/Designer will work on a variety of ITEI infrastructure new development and sustaining projects. Activities will include new design, development and sustaining projects in the ITEI product division supporting IT racks and vFoundation power and thermal solutions for use in global data centers of all types and sizes. The candidate must be a self-starter with a positive “make it happen” approach to meet multiple project goals and deliverables including product schedules, product design and manufacturability cost targets. The candidate must also have the ability to manage complex development programs comprised of multiple and sometimes concurrent deliverables in a matrixed team environment interfacing with global internal and external (supplier/partner) team members. This position also requires use of existing CAD and PLM systems as well as new Oracle support systems being implemented. The postion also requires the ability to successfully multitask and prioritize activities for both sustaining and new product development.
Create 3D models and drawings related to rack and rack infrastructure product
Manage product design tasks and product changes from concept, to prototype, to release in collaboration with other team members.
Create complex drawings and bills of material for IT racks and other related datacenter infrastructure.
Write, submit, release engineering changes for new or released product documentation utilizing corporate CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) databases with existing or new revision control systems as they are deployed.
Work with cross functional domestic and international teams as required.
Ability to interpret and work with agency design standards (UL, CE, ISTA, etc.)
Provide direction to diverse team disciplines/members to complete associated tasks as required.
Work with Engineering Director for task lists and priorities.
Interact with team members to efficiently breakdown tasks, discuss design or modification ideas, and work through tradeoffs and issues with a high degree of collaboration.
Contact and work with outside vendors and suppliers as needed.
Meets project milestones as outlined through the New Product Development and Sustaining Gate release Processes.
General knowledge, understanding and application of IT rack cabinet design and datacenter rack thermal solutions.
Able to interpret engineering schematics internally and from third parties as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience or equivalent BS/technology degree with 10+ years of relevant experience. Masters or MBA a plus.
Must have good planning, organizing, documentation and communication skills, program management experience a plus.
Positive and proactive can-do attitude and approach to problem solving a must have.
Must be team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing dynamics/priorities.
CAD knowledge and experience is a must; Solid Edge or Creo with mechanical component design experience.
PCB and electronics design and assembly experience a plus
Knowledge of C++, HTML, Java or other languages a plus
Thermal design and product development a plus.
IT datacenter rack design and support experience a plus.
Simulation experience is a plus (FEA, CFD)
