POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Field Service Technician
Reports To: Field Service Manager
Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Status: Regular Full-time
Location: Midland MI

Job Summary:
Provide customer-focused service support for XALT Energy battery systems. This support will be in the form of telephone and email consultation as well as on-site service at customer locations, both domestic and international. The Field Service Tech is a customer oriented position within the XALT service department with regular interactions involving XALT internal organizations, including quality, sales, finance, operations, and engineering, to ensure customers’ service needs are met in a timely manner. The Field Service Tech shall maintain a deep understanding of the integration, commissioning, and operation of XALT Energy systems. The Field Service Tech supports the product development team by offering the voice of customer perspective and actively participates in product requirements definition. This includes assisting with root cause analyses for field issues and supporting subsequent corrective actions. Travel is expected to average 50% within North America and a smaller portion in Europe.

Primary Responsibilities:
Support customer service, integration, and commissioning of XALT systems during product development and aftersales operations; ensure customers’ adherence to XALT product guidelines and serve as the XALT commissioning authority for new applications.
Provide technical service for customers, along with quotes and reports about inspection findings.
Training Customers and their stakeholders on system functionality, test, operation and repair best practices.
Organize and document all customer activity for tracking and developing best practices.
Consult with electrical, software, systems, and mechanical teams when intensive diagnostic work is required.
Define and disseminate customer preventative maintenance procedures.
Provide an active role in the development product documentation.
Proactively monitor customer application using XALT’s telematics.
Assist with the fabrication of prototypes and test apparatus to meet service needs.
Participate in regular high voltage and battery system safety training. Serve as a safety ambassador while engaged at customer locations.

Position Qualifications:
Knowledge of medium and heavy duty truck markets and their propulsion systems (hybrid technology preferred).
Experience with high-voltage systems, batteries, is highly desirable.
Literacy in Windows, MS Office, and CAN( Vector) tools is highly desirable.
Hands-on skills to support troubleshooting of product electrical, Hydraulic, mechanical, and software issues.
Understanding of 8D or similar root cause investigation tools and methods.
5-10 years of experience in a related field.
3 year minimum experience working with customers in a field service and/or new product launch environment; educating customers on new product features and resolving issues.
Comfortable working at remote customer facilities as well as in a lab or machine shop environment.
ASE certs, Automotive R&D experience, Automotive/Heavy Equipment repair technician experience is desired.
College/University Degree in Technical or Engineering Field is desired.
