Firefly Propulsion Engineers serve as Responsible Engineers in the development of Firefly’s rocket engines, which will power Firefly’s disruptive launch vehicles. You will have a meaningful leadership role in all aspects of engineering development – from conceptual design through flight testing. Responsible engineers guide designers and analysts to produce components that meet requirements. Parts are fabricated through coordination of Propulsion Engineers and Manufacturing engineers. Firefly Propulsion Engineers and Test Engineers work together to test fully integrated engines at Firefly’s state of the art rocket test site.
Serve as Responsible Engineer for an entire engine or major engine subsystem, with responsibility to deliver complete propulsion systems according to launch
vehicle program plans.
Create analytical models to predict engine performance and operating characteristics
Create conceptual designs of engines and components
Work with Firefly Design and Analysis Engineers to mature conceptual designs and create engineering definition of engine and component designs which meet vehicle requirements
Work with Firefly Manufacturing and Test Engineers to fabricate and test propulsion systems and validate that systems meet launch vehicle requirements
BS in Aerospace Engineering or related engineering discipline
Exceptional comprehension of engineering fundamentals: fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural analysis, materials and processes
Strong understanding of rocket propulsion fundamentals: combustion devices, turbomachinery, rocket engine cycles
Skill in creating analytical/numerical models of engineering devices and processes
Skill in project management
Demonstrated interest in advancing 'newspace'
Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR
Served as a Responsible Engineer for a rocket engine (or subsystem) development project
Works well in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment
Able to organize, prioritize, execute and track tasks in a high pressure fast pace environment
Self-motivated minimum direction required.
Ability to creatively develop economical solutions.
