Transmission Development Manager or Director

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Develops strategy and business plans for the development of new regional transmission facilities that benefit MidAmerican’s retail customers and promote revenue enhancement; completes due diligence assignments regarding transmission assets; directs, participates and represents the company's regional interest in developing transmission-related policies, services, and business practices by regional organizations, such as the Midcontinent independent system operator (MISO); directs and participates in development of and revisions to MISO’s open access transmission tariff (OATT) and associated regulatory filings; lead the Company’s efforts in MISO’s qualified transmission developer renewal and submit bids on behalf of the Company for transmission projects to be integrated into MidAmerican’s transmission operations; represents the company's interest in regional transmission-related forums.

Directs the development of regional transmission facilities that benefit MidAmerican’s retail customers and promote revenue enhancement. (20%)

Directs, participates and represents the company's regional interest in developing transmission-related policies, services, and business practices by regional organizations, such as the Midcontinent independent system operator (MISO). (20%)

Lead the Company’s efforts in MISO’s qualified transmission developer renewal and submit bids on behalf of the Company for projects which would be integrated with the Company’s existing transmission system. Represent the company's interest in regional transmission-related forums. (15%)

Completes due diligence assignments regarding transmission assets. (10%)

Direct and participates in development of and revisions to MISO’s open access transmission tariff (OATT) and associated regulatory filings. Provides testimony, filings, reports and responses to federal and state regulatory authorities. (10%)

Develops long-range business case options and implements preferred plan. Participates in the development of the corporate and division's business plans. (10%)

Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of transmission development activities including budget administration, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department. (10%)

Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%)

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration or related field from an accredited institution. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Advanced degree is preferred.

Five or more years of successful leadership experience; including three years supervisory/management responsibilities is required for the manager level.

Eight or more years of successful leadership experience; including three years supervisory/management responsibilities is required for the director level.

Long-term planning skills to establish long-range goals and objectives.

Effective understanding of utility and engineering economics.

Demonstrated knowledge of safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.

Strong understanding of electrical transmission systems and related system analytical techniques.

Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory and regional planning practices.

Knowledge and experience related to developing regional transmission plans and/or competitive transmission environments including experience with submitting competitive transmission bids.

Prior experience presenting at public hearings, regulatory proceedings and other public meetings affecting MidAmerican's energy delivery system.

Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
