Small, effective, collaborative team
Attractive starting salary with benefits
Opportunity to work on custom design projects
We’re Ian Martin Group, and we’ve partnered with a leader in automation and packaging.
Our client isn’t your average engineering shop. While there’s plenty of firms working in automation and food packaging, they don’t get to do the creative, custom design work that is synonymous with our company.
Our client’s success comes from the reputation and rapport we’ve developed with major companies over the years—brands like Kellogg’s and General Mills. When they need machines to handle unforeseen changes in process or materials, our small team provides custom, turnkey designs that competitors can’t match.
The quality of our work has recently led to an expansion in our business, and we’re looking to hire a new engineer to our team so we can continue that growth.
Packaging System Designer
Much of your time in this role will be spent on consultation and design. Because our work focuses on specific client problems, we employ a rigorous process of design, modelling, and testing.
Communication will be key in this role, especially when hashing out design goals and meeting with clients. Our team believes in productive disagreement and sharing ideas. We enjoy the process of design together, and we encourage creative and innovative thinking at all times.
Here are some specific duties and responsibilities:
Attend client, concept and design review meetings
Participate in drafting and scoping project plans and requirements
Create concept models and layouts for internal and customer review

Evaluate and iterate on final designs
Communicate with vendors and shop staff to ensure quality and quantity of components are correct
Prepare bill of materials and drawing packages; answer client questions on designs/drawings
Travel to site meetings anywhere in North America
Working with our client:
