DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reviews private development, street and traffic design plans, traffic studies, driveway and sidewalk design plan to comply with appropriate criteria, code of ordinances and Infrastructure Design Manual. Assists and coordinates meetings with Engineers for traffic related issues. Provides review comments on Traffic Impact Studies to Managing Engineer and assists in drafting City responses. Assists Engineers to complete talks and special projects as required. Updates and maintains (ILMS) Integrated Land Management System related to projects reviewed. Develops, evaluates and/or designs new layouts, drawing, plans and specifications. Updates and maintains records concerning street and traffic design reports. Provides engineering assistance identifying, evaluating, managing and rehabilitating various facilities and systems. Discusses engineering matters and provides guidance to consultants, owners and the general public with regards to engineering design requirements. Requires ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and provide excellent customer relations. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking and standing. May require walking on rough surfaces during inspections and investigations.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as satisfactory standing.
Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.
Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and be in compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving. (A.P. 2-2).
Preference shall be given to applicants who have experience or education in Traffic Studies.
Preference shall be given to applicants who demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and Synchro programs.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED
None. However, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
The candidate will be expected to receive professional engineering licensure within five-years of being hired as a graduate engineer.
