The Mechanical Engineering Co-op is responsible for the design, validation testing and launch of new products and sustaining engineering activities for existing products within the Product Development Engineering Group. The Product Development Engineering Group supports Product Management, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing throughout the product development and implementation process. This position is involved in all project development activities including: ideation, concept design, prototype testing, market research, detailed design, cost analysis, tooling, product validation, manufacturing process development and product launch. The Mechanical Engineering Co-op works with department managers, engineers, designers, laboratory technicians, model makers, tool makers and service technicians to ensure that projects and programs are being completed in a timely manner.
The mission of the Product Development Engineering Department is to meet or exceed internal and external engineering customer expectations by developing new customized proprietary product designs that anticipate the market demands and meet or exceed Pentair Water Treatments performance criteria and by providing direct support of Pentair Oil and Gas segments. The Oil and Gas Separations group focus their new product development efforts on deploying cutting edge filtration and separation technologies to tough to treat processes in industrial and oil and gas applications. This New Product development group works closely with the sales team to leverage excellent process knowledge to create exceptional products for our customers. This team is well positioned, having a state of the art laboratory for customer sample analysis and filtration testing onsite, while also being in the same campus as manufacturing for all our products.
CUSTOMERS SERVED/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Frequent interaction with all members of the organization, vendors and customers.
Employees: Provides direction to support staff and assistance to all employees.
Engineers: Directly supports engineering projects.
Vendors: Acts as liaison between suppliers and Pentair Water Treatment.
Direct Customers: Provides technical assistance and support to customer inquires.
Management: Maintains project and product cost data, development of project status reports.
Minimum of a sophomore status in a four year degree program for Mechanical or Industrial Engineering. Knowledge of basic drafting principles, CAD, solid modeling, material properties, prototyping techniques, electromechanical mechanisms are preferred. Team player with ability to work in a cross functional team setting. Must have demonstrated the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete projects on schedule and on budget. Ability to produce product designs based on defined product specifications. Analytical thought process so that root causes can be determined from observed output.
EDUCATION OR DEGREE REQUIRED:
Sophomore or higher standing in a four year Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree program required. Additional schooling or experience in engineering or business is a plus.
This position is a full-time 40 hour, 1st shift position so students must be willing to do a Cooperative Education.
RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Ideal candidate would have knowledge of and/or experience in electromechanical mechanisms including but not limited to oil and gas process design/operation, valves and hydraulic systems, materials engineering, or mechanical product testing. Experience in the water or water treatment, general filtration, or oil and gas industry is an advantage.
