Job Purpose

The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing new or improved manufacturing processes used across the spectrum of Comfort Company/Roho products. Primary objectives include quality improvement, cost reduction, safety and ergonomics improvements, process efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Results

A good attendance record is essential to the smooth operation of the Engineering Department.

Manages process improvement projects through establishment of schedules with milestones, tasks, responsible parties and due dates.

Provides process requirement specifications used to fabricate products, including acceptance criteria, test requirements and regulatory/quality standards.

Uses engineering principles and techniques to research, design, analyze and test new and existing materials & processes.

As required in support of R&D, defines product design test requirements and specifications, prepares a test plan and provides test equipment for testing new product designs.

Develops process validation plans for new or modified processes.

Leads or executes process validation activities and issues reports based on the test results.

Performs pre-production runs working with manufacturing, quality and purchasing to ensure the product and process designs meet product design requirement specification and can be economically produced in production.

Secondary Job Results

To oversee the maintenance or repair of production machines and equipment used within Comfort Company/Roho’s manufacturing facilities.

Establish and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for all and production machinery.

Coordinates work with maintenance, quality and compliance departments to define the process design requirements and ensure these requirements are satisfied.

Works with outside vendors, suppliers, customers and governmental / regulatory agencies to define the process design requirements and ensure product and process compliance.

Coordinates work with the tool shop and outside vendors to develop and/or make tooling and prototypes for process development.

Provides engineering expertise and/or support in the areas of tooling, prints, specifications, materials and vendor products throughout the organization.

Recommends methods, materials and provides drawings for product improvements based on manufacturing needs and capabilities.

Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or the Safety Manager.

Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

Attend in-house or off-site workshops, seminars, and conferences to increase or maintain knowledge of position.

Perform other duties as assigned.


General Direction: Receive general guidance with respect to overall objectives and prioritization of work; operate within division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.

Project-Specific: Provide direction to various team members regarding tasks necessary for successful project completion.

Tools and Equipment

Knowledge of process automation is a plus.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from college or university with a minimum of eight years related experience.

Language Skills

1.Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.

3. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.

4. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

Computer Operations

1. Proficient in computer-assisted engineering software and equipment.

2. Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database, activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
