What you can expect in a typical day
As a Process Engineer working on-site at the largest oil refinery in Canada, you will work with a team of senior and junior engineers, and cross-functional teams to optimize the Hydrogen Plant and refinery hydrogen system. As the owner of various initiatives, you will work with the team from conception to completion to develop standards, specifications, schedules, programs, and procedures on all work performed.
Develop and implement plans for problem solving and complex design completion, as well as other refinery improvement initiatives taking into account multiple aspects such as: safe operations, process requirements, budget, impacts on operator effectiveness, any hazards.
Manage intermediate complex areas, tasks, and functions.
Work closely with the Integrated Supply Planning team to ensure hydrogen system predictions are accurate.
Coach and manage junior engineers to achieve objectives, helping them to develop and learn new skills.
Identify, report on, and monitor KPIs for process units.
Support day-to-day troubleshooting as required.
Keep cross-functional leaders informed of project progress and status updates.
Monitor and enforce key best practices to improve refinery operations.
Support any outages assisting with inspections, evaluations, and start-up.
Remain current on emerging refining technologies.
What you’ll need to succeed
Safety as-a-way-of-life mindset.
Very strong analytical and problem solving skills. You enjoy figuring out the root of problems and designing better processes and procedures to minimize or eliminate them.
5+ years of field experience troubleshooting in an operational plant.
Able to work in the field: this includes working in year-round weather conditions, able to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, etc. and able to lift up to 20lbs. You must be able to wear full PPE as required by safety standards.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Experience with engineering software programs.
Travel is not a requirement for this role.
Education and experience
University degree in chemical engineering.
7+ years of process engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in a downstream operation.
Experience with hydrogen plants and refinery hydrogen systems.
Experience with gasoline units an asset.
