The Analytical Technician executes routine and non-routine analytical testing, experiments and tasks to support R&D product design, improvements, and material quality. The role works within a self-directed team of Technicians and Technologists to independently resolve requests for testing which are generated by Product Design Engineers and Scientists.
Plans and executes routine and non-routine analytical testing, experiments and tasks.
Creates reports that summarize data, provides interpretation, and analyzes for exceptions.
Performs manual tasks and operates instruments which include the mixing and handling of chemicals.
Practices proper safety procedures and reports unsafe acts or conditions.
Performs routine and non-routine analytical testing using laboratory techniques and equipment such as balances, ovens, mixers, and hotplates.
Performs routine and non-routine analytical testing using instrumentation such as FTIR, GC, GC-MS, titrators, elemental analyzers, and AAs.
Understands underlying technical principles.
Collects, records, and transcribes routine and non-routine data.
Performs routine and non-routine calculations; creates routine and non-routine tables, charts and graphs.
Creates data reports that include conclusions.
Identify and implement continuous improvement measures.
Provide insight and feedback to engineers on testing strategy and potential test issues
Practices proper safety procedures and reports unsafe acts or conditions when executing tests and owns and drives some safety programs for the entire facility
May also perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelors degree in chemistry or similar degree and experience with full understanding and practical working knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry.
A good fundamental understanding of higher level mathematics, mechanics, general science, and general computer applications.
Instrumentation & Equipment Familiarity: balances, ovens, mixers, and hotplates, titrators, elemental analyzers, AAs, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, FTIR

Understands product quality requirements
Preferred Skills and Experience
B.S or B.A in chemistry
At least two years of demonstrated related experience in an analytical laboratory or similar environment.
Chromatography (e.g. GC, GC-MS, HPLC) and FTIR experience
Working Relationships & Environment
Interfaces with supervisor for direction and guidance.
Works with and provides guidance to co-workers as necessary.
Interfaces with other departments or groups to acquire necessary information.
The Westlake Ohio facility is a Research and Development laboratory for Batteries, Lighting, Automotive Appearance Chemicals, and Automotive Fragrance products.
This position reports Monday through Friday, day shift.
Will work in in a technical laboratory setting with occasional travel
Up to 5% travel is required.
Able to perform repetitive manual tasks requiring hands, stand for extended periods of time, and lift 35 lbs.
Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Work schedule that may occasionally vary from typical business hours.
